98% Dragonite with DB and DP
Hello Everyone,
I evolved my Level 5 98% Dragonair to Dragonite 3 Hours before Generation 2. So its one of the last Nites with DB and DP.
Til now I gave him no power up at all, because of i am afraid of that DT combinations are much better. I know that legacy moves are cool, but is my combination (almost) as good as the new DT Outrage thing?
Would you power it up or use the candy to evolve a new one? I have a level 22 Dratini with 87%. My own Level is 30.

DT movesets provide higher cycle DPS in a straight up race but are less efficient when dodging because of the longer move cooldowns (DT = 1.1 seconds // DB = 0.5 seconds); whereas, DB movesets will do slightly less DPS, but are much more efficient when dodging.
So, my overall verdict is this: if you want to kill multiple pokemon with a single Dragonite, DB movesets will output more damage over the course of multiple battles because you will be able to dodge very effectively and your damage taken will be much lower than DT movesets. If you want to kill a single pokemon very quickly, DT movesets are optimal.
Since I prefer the former, i.e. using my Dragonite to take down multiple defenders, DB is the optimal quick move. When it comes to Dragon Pulse vs. Dragon Claw, they're very close in terms of overall damage output. Pulse does slightly more damage, but the cooldown is longer and you will have a tougher time dodging. Pulse vs. Outrage is similar in that sense - Outrage does more damage but it's more difficult to dodge effectively with the longer cooldown.
I would say that, ultimately, DB-DC is still the best moveset. DB-DP is still second best in my estimation, and I would be very glad I evolved this guy before gen2 if I were in your shoes.
Congrats and enjoy melting gym defenders with your legacy Dragonite :)
Thank you for that very professional answer! This Nite will have 3138 CP when its maxed. So its probably better so use it as long as possible in battle :-).
I made some calculation with the ,,true DPS'' vales from this site and i came to that result:
DB+DP=27,71 DPS
DT+OR=31,96 DPS
DT+HR=30,75 DPS
DT+HB=29,7 DPS
Is there realy a difference of 10% plus or dit i wrong calculation?
