91% Blastoise (15-14-12) 1436cp level 20 - what to do?

I hatched a 91% squirtle, and during the Halloween event found a squirtle spawn - which is super rare where I am. In the months since PoGo started there have never been squirtle spawns. In our city I've only seen 1 or 2 Blastoise - that's how rare they are.

I managed to collect 265 squirtle candies during the event. Lol. I evolved him and got a Blaistoise with Bite and Flash Cannon which is supposed to be the second best defending move set... but not the best.

I really want a maxed out Blastoise for putting in gyms as a trophy. But if it's not at least a decent defending move set I wonder if I should wait. Thing is I want to be one of the first in my area to show him off.

The other option is to evolve a level 20 - 89% squirtle I have to try for a better move set, but that would only leave me with about 20 candies left. Not enough to get him maxed (I will be level 29 tomorrow). And there are no more squirtles anywhere now. We don't really have any water where I live. Just a small river that barely spawns water Pokemon.

It would be a big project powering up my Bite/Flash Cannon Blastoise but I'm wondering how good it might actually be? Help!

It's not a bad defensive moveset - too weak for attack, but bite will charge up Flash Cannon pretty quickly and he'll certainly serve as an irritant. Just no STAB.

Chances of evolving another squirtle with the better defensive move are lower than evolving one with a better offensive, but weaker defensive set.

He'll be solid but not spectacular (oh and look cool :) )

Regardless of what the site says, I actually think ice beam is the best defensive move because most people will counter him with a grass pokemon or Dragonite and ice beam will be SE against the grass and x2 to Dragonite. Worst case, they use electric against him, but electric resist steel, so without STAB, ice beam is better there also. Ice beam is also a great offensive move against Dragonite. If you could get either quick move with ice beam, that would be ideal for both attack and defense. He could be a Dragonite slayer. You could use him for either offense or defense.

I guess what I am saying is try for another one...I don't think flash cannon is very good on defense. If you have to walk him to get candies to power him up, it isn't the end of the world...I walked my Charizard to power him up after I evolved him.

It's a good option to walk with him but I'm going to be walking with my 100% bulbasaur next to get a venasaur and power him up. Lots of things to do!

Appreciate your comments tho. Definitely gives me something to think about. I could evolve another and still not get a good defensive move set. Wish I got ice beam with this guy.

I agree, ice beam is really usefull to defend.
Even without stab this is the best.
