Not sure about it.

I have got a 20%IV-2800 CP dragonite, who really is a bad prestiger. Gives only 100 XP when prestiging.

On the other hands side, i have got a 98%IV-150 CP abra, who is a really bad prestiger. It does not defeat the defenders, gives 0 XP when trying to prestige.

I tend to believe, that IV is not all what is neccesairy to make a good prestiger.

I also tried a high IV Abra to prestige against a C/IB Slowbro, it was really bad. Abra has a slightly lower base DEF and STA, that is probably a reason.

Abra has a slightly lower base DEF, that is probably a reason.

Abra has low def, low sta and very high att. This makes him a glass cannon, makes his battling performance overrated with cp and makes him a bad prestiger par excellence. Same applies to kadabra and simsala.

My original post was just kidding. I could not resist to do so, as these points were discussed over and over again last weeks.

No. I cannot quite remember the reasoning but actually low IV's were slightly better, something with getting a higher level at the same CP and thus hitting harder.
The only useful one to be high is HP if I remember correctly. Basically just ignore IV's altogether for prestiging.

What makes a good prestiger:

(1) Correct CP. CP should be about 50% (to 70%) of the pokemon you want to prestige against. 50% and lower makes fighting unneccesairily hard, more than 100% gives much less xp (<250).
The range obviousely depends on the gym you are training, but as a rule of the thump, 1100...1500 CP are considered ideal.

(2) Good typing, same thinking as with normal attackers - optimal is super effective into defender, not very effective in return

(3) Good, powerful, moveset, STAB prefered, fast quick attacks for dodging, strong charged moves. 1-Bar-Charged moves are difficult, as they leave your attacker long time unable to dodge and unprotected.

(4) High Def- and STA-Stats. All Stats (ATT / DEF / STA) have same impact on combat performance, but DEF and STA are taken square-rooted into CP, ATT directly. So with DEF and STA you can get high combat performance at low CP.

How to take IVs into account? They have a direct influence on ATT / DEF / STA (See 4th Point) and raise combat performance and CP (see 1st Point).

Conclusion:
TL&DR + General Speaking: For prestiging, high IVs are not neccesairy, sometimes they are not even good.

This.

Also a 1200 Dragonite will have around the same stats as a 1200 Raticate. Only difference is that the Raticate will be around level 30 and the Dragonite will be somewhere in the teens.

No. What matters is CP, and CP is calculated from stats. So if your Pokemon has good moves and is in the right CP range (1000 to 1400 from my experience, may vary for you), keep it.

No. To gain 1000 prestige off of a 2000 cp defender you will need your team to be 1000 cp or under. To gain 500 prestige off of a 2000 cp defender you will need your team to be 2000 cp or under. It is all about how low you can go while still being able to defeat the pokemon. IVs are irrelevant.

Actually the opposite.
A lower IV will need to be a higher level to be of the same CP.
It may cost more candy/dust to achieve the required CP with a lower IV, but it will mean you have a higher level mon.
It will result in fraction of a % difference in the fight.

Low IV is fine for a prestige...just get good moveset and CP

CP is king for prestige - evolve the one that will give you the exact CP range you are looking for, so you don't use dust and candy...and then hope for moveset. Nothing else matters.

Since I can't obviously evolve every pokemon I catch, I need to make some sort of choice to narrow the options. For training pokemon, I think more important than the total percentage is the actual IV distribution. I look for IVs that balance out a pokemon's weaker base stats. Examples:

https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon/2
Ivysaur has equal base Atk and Def, but lower Stm, so I look for Bulbasaurs that have at least a high Stm IV to evolve to try for Vine Whip/Solar Beam. I don't want one with high Atk IV and low Stm IV.

https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon/40
Wigglytuff has skyhigh Stm, so I don't care as much about Jigglypuff's Stm IV. Its Def IV is more important, then Atk.

For the most part, a lot of pokemon have lower base Stm than their other base stats. So until you learn the exceptions, a good general rule of thumb is to look for pokemon that at least have a good Stm IV.

If you bother to worry at all about IVs for training pokemon.
