12 pokemon per type- all you need?

Obviously for collector's value/meta relevant pokemon you can collect and keep as much as you want, but for battling purposes, are 12 pokemon of the same type at good levels all you need? This is for the assumption of 2 raid parties for a raid boss.

Even Blizzard Kyogre isn't going to wipe out more than 12 pokemon for sufficiently large group sizes, and this is already the hardest boss.

I've been looking through my water collection and there exists stuff that I probably will not use or have never used:
Level 35 Vapes X3
Level 30 Gyarados X4
Level 25 Kyogres X3
Level 30 Vapes X4 (there were even more in the past)
Level 30 Swampert X1
Level 30 Feraligatr X1
Level 30 Omastars X2
Level 30 Kingdras X2

Forget the Kingdra and Omastars which have done absolutely nothing, there is even a question whether I even will end up using the level 30 Vapes for any given battle.

Thinking about transferring all of these and just keeping a group of 12 per type until a better one comes along then the worst out of the 12 gets kicked out. What are your strategies if one of your types are filled with members like this?

I’ve considered something similar before but am paranoid that I’ll regret it (e.g., Niantic makes some big change again that impacts the meta, prestiging comes back, etc). I hate having to constantly manage storage space.

Non-Legendary Stable
Machamp C/DP
Dragonite DT/O
Tyranitar B/C
Flareon FS/O
Jolteon TS/TB
Gengar SC/SB
Exeggutor BS/SB
Lapras IS/IB
Espeon C/FS
Rhydon MS/E
Golem RB/RT
Gyrados WF/HP

I tried to choose one from the twelve most relevant types to the meta. I hated to leave Gardevoir off this list, but she could be a good alternative to Espeon or Gengar.

As for Legendaries, I’d make a few substitutions.

Raikou TS/WC for Jolteon
Articuno FB/B for Lapras
Mewtwo C/SB for Espeon
Groudon MS/E for Rhydon
Kyogre WF/HP for Gyrados

However, in most cases, non-Legendaries will always be a lesser investment without a considerable drop off in attack ability. Raikou and Articuno are the only two Legendaries I feel are worth that investment.

Raikou and Articuno because of their immediate usefulness? Because if we talk about the gap in attack ability, Kyogre and Groudon are much more above their non-legendary counterparts than Articuno.

Articuno is a Dragonslayer, much more useful than a water or ground type. Lapras is effective, but almost as rare as Articuno. Gyrados, Vaporeon and Rhydon are easily found, and more effective than Lapras in terms of type vs. their legendary counterpart.

I now have three 2400+ double fighting Ursaring, no way I’m throwing those away...maybe 2400 should be my floor though. I’ve thrown a lot away already, but kept 22 Machamps, 21 Exeggutors, 22 Tyranitars, 17 Gengars...I still have 100 empty out of 750 spots.

How could you possibly need even half of your Machamps?

Right when raids started I powered 6 up to level 27+, but since I got ones with better IVs. Then raided some boosted ones when I got tired of whatever legendary. They are all double fighting. Then spent candy on caught wilds.
Pokédex says I’ve seen 49 Tyranitars, probably why I gathered so many. Also I used to battle many gyms to get golds and also to get a few extra premier balls. Neither part of my daily routine now.
***Somewhat a resource shortage here, opponents don't always put in ideal Blisseys. Then they rarely golden razz them.
Not a lot of pre-raid flipping gyms for a few more balls either, the real popular gyms on major roads (or opening weekend) get easy legendary raids...then busy chatting/organizing rather than gym playing.

I used to have something similar, then I decided that there simply is no way I'm going to power up so many, so I cut down to 6 Eggy, 15 Tyranitar, 9 Machamp, etc depending on how much I need I saw for keeping different movesets for legacy purposes and the like. And even with that people still think I'm a hoarder.

A team of Eeveelutions is all you need to take down any gym. With Eevee being available at L30+ and super common in partly cloudy weather, I only need 1 Raikou, and don't even need an Entei.
