Better moves and better survivability. People really under-estimate Venusaur.
Venusaur was the one of only pokemon that could take a weather boosted solar beam from groudon and live to tell about it.
Although I must admit Exeggutor pulls ahead at higher levels, but nothing too significant.

100% IV lvl 30 Venusaur
So, i have 100% IV lvl 30 Venusaur with Razor Leaf and Sludge Bomb. Previously, I used him as a defender (not the best,, but really good). But, today i look at Pokebattler raid battle symulation and Venusaur at 30 lvl with Dodging Specials strategy (unknown moveset) is better than Exeggutor when fight against Kyogre and Groudon, and is THE BEST against Omastar. How it is possible? Venusaur have 2nd poison type who give him SE from earth type attacks, and have worse stats than Exeggutor. How is it possible that he is better? It is bug? And if not; it is worth fast and charge TM Venusaur to Vine Whip/ Solar Beam?

With dodging specials is the key. VW is much easier to dodge with than BS and pokebattler take that into account (at least if you use the realistic dodging option). That means he misses less dodges and have higher survivability. The problem is that against groudon and kyogre you will encounter the dodge glitch often.
