PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Pharoah Trim is obviously the best choice for Furfrou, sporting an outstandingly regal cut that brings out its royal blood. Pairing this form with Cofagrigus is a must.
  • Diamond Trim is a jewel of a Pokemon, and will serve Furfrou well. Sableye is an outstanding partner, though its tendency to eat gems may put Furfrou in a bit of danger.
  • Star Trim gives Furfrou a shining, cosmic feel that allows it to pair well with similar Pokemon such as Clefairy and Clefable.
  • Dandy Trim is a grand all-around design that is ready for general exploration. Well behaved Pokemon such as Audino work well beside it.
  • Debutante Trim has an air of grace and dignity, making it pair perfectly with graceful Pokemon such as Gardevoir.
  • La Rein Trim is extravagant and bold, willing to show off its unique design with pride. Aromatisse can add scent to this spectacle of sight and allow it to truly stand out.
  • Kabuki Trim sports a strong traditional vibe that one must respect. Hariyama's focus on traditional fighting styles compliments it well.
  • Matron Trim hosts a posh look that let's everyone know that it's truly arrived at its life goals. A simple Indeedee to care for its needs is a fine pairing.
  • Heart Trim shows a more caring persona, and draws from an arguably more feminine style. Luvdisk fits the theme here perfectly.
  • Natural Form is the simple, tomboyish incarnation of this glorious Pokemon, for those unafraid to show the world what lies beneath the primed and proper grooming that's expected in our day and age. A simple Rattata partner proves the simplicity of this look, and displays equality despite breeding.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

  • The rather extravagant Pharoah Trim, Kabuki Trim,  and La Reine Trim will show the world that you are indeed a traveler if used outside of their native regions, showing the world that you have, indeed, traveled the world.
  • Diamond Trim, Star Trim, and Debutante Trim are more widely available, but still fantastic on non-native gyms.
  • Dandy Trim and Matron Trim are globally available, yet still outstanding for their regal presence.
  • Heart Trim is limited to events, and seems to only appear once or twice per year. This exclusivity makes it a style very worthy of showing off despite its global availability.
  • Natural Form is for those who see the beauty within, and understand that worth is not simply skin deep. Either that or someone who just dropped a random Pokemon into a gym while driving past. Don't judge, we all do it.

PVE Overview

What can be said about Furfrou that hasn't already been said many, many times before? Hailing from the prestigious Kalos region, this wonderous Pokemon has been cared for and cherished by royalty since time immemorial. It is the guardian of kings, and a status symbol second to none.

Originally, this Pokemon was, as stated, the guardian of the ancient royalty of the Kalos region. While we see it today primarily as a status symbol among the most elite of trainers in Pokemon Go, it is amazing to think that this glorious Pokemon was originally sought after not for its bewitching style and incredible versatility, but rather for its fierce strength and protective tendencies. History shows that it was extremely successful in its role, as its trainers began cutting its luxurious fur in order to lessen wind resistance and allow it to move about with greater agility. Over time, this practice of cutting the fur of Furfrou became a challenge unto itself, as royal guards would attempt to style their assigned Furfrou into more and more extravagant and beautiful styles in order to make them fit into the extravagant royal court of Kalos within that day-and-age. This continued until the royals of the time took notice, causing them to bring their own styles to this versatile Pokemon. In time, many different styles or "trims" were developed for Furfrou in order to make it truly stand out, and soon even the royals began to work in competition in order to out do one another with progressively more extravagant designs. Soon, stylists from across the globe were called to Kalos, in hopes that their unique way of seeing the world would bring about a new and greater style as a result. In the end, the traditional court of Kalos royals accepted nine "official" styles that would be accepted for Furfrou, plus the original non-styled variant.

But after countless generations of Furfrou being bred for more luxurious and easy to manage fur, its steadfast personality began to make a subtle shift. While it kept the loyal and steadfast nature that made it first attractive for its guard duty in the past, it began feeling more and more pride for its appearance. In fact, it soon came to the point where Furfrou gained a sixth-sense about the skills of those that would seek to take scissor and brush to its personal majesty, and would no longer allow anyone lacking the skills fostered by the royal stylists of old to change its style. This trait has been so ingrained into this Pokemon, that even wild Furfrou with little more than a passive relation to the royal Furfrou of old have inherited this innate awareness. Because of this trait, those in high fashion today tend to bring a Furfrou along when searching for a new hair stylist, as Furfrou's natural understanding of a stylist's skills will ensure that the resulting work will only be of the highest quality.

What's that? How is Furfrou in Pokemon Go? It's trash, throw it in your box and forget about it.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Sand Attack + Surf and Dark Pulse or Grass Knot

Sucker Punch is recommended as the most balanced of Furfrou's Fast Moves, sporting slightly above average energy generation, and a useful Ground-type coverage. Sucker Punch is decent but is overall slightly worse. Bite gives up energy generation to favor high damage output, which can make Furfrou a more polarizing counter against Ghost Pokemon. Take Down is a very poor move, and STAB isn't enough to change that.

Surf is a well-rounded move that doesn't cost a lot of energy, and provides decent Water-type damage. Dark Pulse synergizes with Furfrou's Fast Moves if more consistency is needed against Ghost and Psychic Pokemon. Grass Knot can be chosen for useful Grass-type coverage against popular Water Pokemon.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 2 / 5

Furfrou's moveset offers unusual coverage options for a Normal-type, lacking STAB on all of its recommended moves and rendering it very vulnerable against its only weakness to Fighting-type Pokemon. Furfrou sports average bulk, and generally fits the role of an anti-Ghost with some play against common Water-types thanks to Grass Knot. However consistency is Furfrou's main drawback, with the lack of STAB on all its moves and average stats from Sand Attack holding it back. Overall Furfrou falls below meta Dark-types in their role, with no resistance against Psychic Pokemon while also losing to Dark-types due to the lack of coverage and resisted Sucker Punch damage.

Ultra League: 1 / 5

Furfrou somewhat lacks stats for Ultra League, reaching 2415 CP at level 50 with a Best Buddy effect, making this Pokemon quite expensive to use. Its performance, or rather lack thereof, doesn't justify its high resource cost.

Master League: 0 / 5
