Worth powering this Gyarados ?

Hi guyz

After months of grinding Magikarp, I've finally evolved my 1rst Gyarado !!!

I was lucky enough to hatch a lvl20 100IV Magikarp, so I went for this one.

Turned out that Gyarados came with Dragon Tail / Crunch.

So, is it worth powering this mon, or just start grinding another 400 candies ?

Thanks !

I would keep grinding until this site releases the ratings for all the new movesets. I thought Magikarps are everywhere? I guess a mountain or desert biome don't spawn Magikarps.

I live in desert biome and they occasionally spawn at the canal near my apartment, but never in large amounts. Other water types more common like psyduck.

Living in Warsaw, I dont find a lot of Magikarp in here :(
It may be faster now with pinap berries, tho...

Surely I will wait. I just can't stand "throwing" this 100% IV away :(

I had a hard time collecting all the 400 candies to (I live in a jungle according to niantic), and I evolved my first one in the end of the valentines event. It came with bite and dragon pulse, not bad at the time but useless now. I think that you have the best defensive moveset.

I heard DT is good for defense. But I'm not sure about the charge move :/

Isn't OR better for defense ?

I'm pretty sure DT + Outrage performs better on defense according to all the numbers I've seen and the napkin math I've done myself.

Plus, with respect to the major gym sweepers (Tyranitar and Dragonite), Outrage is either unresisted or gets Type advantage -- Crunch is resisted by T-Rex. Outrage gets SE against Dragonite as opposed to normal damage with Crunch.

I would max out a 100% Gyrados no matter what moves it had. It will sit near the top of the gym and anyone who gets to it will kick it out of the gym regardless of its moves.

I have a few 3000+ Gyradoses and they honestly stay in gyms just as long, if not longer, than my 3000+ Snorlax which has great defensive moves. Sadly cp seems to be more important than pretty much anything else, including moves, in the current gym system.

I must live in the middle of a lake...plenty of small fry goldfish1300+ candy at moment and 2 @ 91% level 26/14 and 1 @ 93% level 16 to evolve...that is beside these Gyarados....
lvl 33.5 - 3023 100% B/HP
lvl 24 - 2223 @ 89% B/HP
lvl 30 - 2774 @ 89% B/DP
lvl 29 - 2685 @ 89% DT/HP
lvl 23 - 2140 @ 93% DT/HP
lvl 17 - 1561 @ 91% B/C
lvl 29.5 - 2715@ 84% B/T
plus 3 other B/T in the 82-89% but all lvl 20....

think a cull is needed

Not very good for attacking, but second best for defense. As far as any Gyarados can be good for defense when it has a double weakness to electric.

Since Crunch only costs 33 energy, it will fire off more often. It does have a 3.2s length though and I don't know how easy it is to dodge.

110% keep it and power it up, that's a great defender and is 100iv
