Why the 100-candy requirement for second-tier evos?

So I've noticed some discrepancies with how much candy is required for these new Gen 4 evolutions...I mean, 100 candy is fine for something like Togekiss or Electivire, because they're already a tier-three evolution, right? They have baby forms and everything. But why in the name of barbecue sauce are they requiring 100 candy for things like Yanmega, Ambipom, or Glalie/Froslass? It's just weird, man. Seems very arbitrary to me.

Most players have had 2+ years to get candy for things like Lickitung, Aipom, Yanma etc... Many have also been featured in events such Snorunt. Starting to get the point now?

If they kept the 50 candy requirement, most players would've had 1/4 of the Sinnoh dex filled out within seconds of them being released. Seeing how for most players (especially casual players) filling out the dex is the main goal, it's understandable that Niantic increased the candy requirement and added a stone.

with the exception of Yanmega I'm on 1k Aipom and 2k snorunt candy. I suspect most will have at least 200 to deal with those evolutions, so it's not really a big concern for most

Just to clarify - Togepi and Elekid are babies, meaning that the base form (the one you can find in the wild) are Togetic/Electrabuzz, so Togekiss/Electivire are just the evolution of the base form. That's pretty much like Pichu > Pikachu > Raichu, and that last step is 50 candy, but Raichu is not from the Sinnoh region. Rhyhorn > Rhydon > Rhyperior is what you probably mean where it makes more sense, I guess.

Sinnoh cross-generation evolution is just 100 candy and a stone, with a new sale on the middle stage, that's it. Let's see how they handle Eevee, though (we all should have tons of candy for that one anyway).

If anything, I wish it was this way since the beginning, especially when Snorlax and Lapras reigned supreme. It seemed rather unbalanced having to spend 125 (-2) candies on evolving anything with 3-stages when you could get a Blissey for less than half of that or a Snorlax just by finding the damn Snorlax. In a balanced game, 2 stages should have always had a 100 candy requirement to evolve while 3-staged species should have cost 25 for the first evolution and just 75 for the second.

"Just find."
I realize my experience doesn't apply to everyone but I've only "just found" a wild Snorlax once. It was within the first year of the game and it had maybe 100CP. Every single Snorlax I've obtained since then was either hatched or from the June breakthrough box. Any Blissey I have are purely thanks to egg hatches and map scanners before they were taken offline for several months. Hell, I didn't catch my first Lapras until Hoenn was released.

I personally don't mind the candy requirements being different but it does appear more as a lack of consistency given other 2-stage item species only require 50 candy plus the item, such as Sunkern.

Sucks for you, but your results aren't normal in urban settings, which is the environment the game has been tailored for. Heck, I don't even live in a dense suburban town and I have found plenty of Snorlax and Chancey without scanners. So... yeah... I don't get why you focused so much on that point. I mean, how often do you also "just find" Dratini, Larvitar or Beldum. Not many I would guess. My point is that there are many rare species but many of the top-meta that pretty much ranks (or have historically ranked) more or less the same do not have equivalent candy requirements. Snorlax just needs enough candies to power it up whereas a dratini needs both that same amount of candies at the same level but also the extra 124 to evolve it in one go. I would have preferred if they had always been the same in total for all evolvable species: 100 for 2-stagers and 25+75 for 3-stagers.
