Something interesting about palkia being next

A while back when I was looking at the gen 4 legendaries to make a list of pokemon to prioritize getting candy and luckies for, I sorted the unreleased sinnoh ones by weaknesses.

Lake trio- weak to everything we use to raid mewtw/deoxys/cresselia

Regigigas and dialga- Countered so well by fighting, (for dialga, ground types will need weather boost to stand out)

and Palkia- Much like with dialga, one counter (dragon) is near always supreme, with the other type (fairy) needs 2 conditions for it to be better (cloudy + draco meteor)

even including mythical darkrai and arceus in the potential raid pool changes nothing about the types well expect to be best counters for the rest of gen 4 (shaymin, manaphy/phione are pokemon likely suited to spedial research, hence noninclusion) this is of course barring new moves being added/ move rebalance or community day moves. Essentially there's is no potentially better counter to any of the remaining sinnoh legendary Pokemon

Now the part I find interesting, Palkia is the only legendary who's counters had the largest potential for change, given Garchomp and dialga easily could have placed at top counters. Dialga being not weak to dragon makes it extremely reliable as a counter as well as having great dps an bulk, and garchomp being more or less a bulkier dragonite. While against the other 5 (or 7) theres very little in gen 4 that changes when it comes to the counter lists, the only one being potentially darkrai for the lake trio but it likely would be as displacing when it comes to the counters as say a dragon that isnt weak to dragon or another very high DPS bulky dragon to use against palkia, however much like mewtwo, their best counters will be moveset dependent> likely gengar for against swift, tyranitar/weavile/mewtwo (and potentially darkrai) for all (minus weavile v the one with fireblast)

*also note I didnt consider garchomp in for a potential palkia counter, even if it is released to day as it will be a very heavy investment to use with the candy needed to evolve, while great, it will be impractical compared to a raid caught palkia, had it ben released prior with more time to build candy, I feel it would be more practical

Might be a bit of overthinking on my part, but I like to be prepared. Just thought i'd share something I found.

You're overthinking but it's fine.

Really though, across generations most legends have shared weaknesses. (Since many are dragons or their secondary typing is weak to a common type) Most of the counters we have now will still be useful as we move forward. The only difference is that the variety within with types will increase which is always a good thing.

What i was more so meaning was that there's no gen 4 Pokemon that can come out that (with the movesets the datamine turned up) that's a better/top counter than what we have. That and the types outside of palkia line up so well counter wise.

Meaning, if I'm not saying it well enough, no fighting type (barring gallade or lucario getting some godtier moveset) will replace machamp as best dialga/gigas counter. Same for Tyranitar/weavile against the lake trio.

Darkrai could place top counter for the lake trio, though it is release method at not be available.

Palkia could have had one or three new top counters, depending on release order, which is something I found a bit surprising

After the 'rayquaza return' fake news, I got a bit more proactive in making sure I'm prepared.

Many old players got (re)excited with shiny Groudon. Palkia will be interesting a couple weeks, but nobody will feel the need to raid it all day. Offers an intensity break. Rayquaza shiny will get quite a few people raiding it 75-100 times in its two weeks.

Gawd, some people just spend too much time and money on this game.
When it comes down to it, I'm still likely better at PvP than them.

I know a lot who feel the same.

Shiny hunters and players looking for more candy/high iv's (I live in a very passionately competitive area, we're al fans of pokemon and want to be, well the best, so we raid hard) , some spent 75-100+ passes, exactly as you said, and some more than that. It's not just the passes they ran out, but stardust as well, a lot weren't the happiest when that fake rayquaza tease happened.

Palkia's, thankfully, going to offer a lot of the players a break, is it great? Yes but its not the single best of its type and shiny possible, so theres not as pressing of a demand for it in the same way it was for kyogre/groudon. For those with lots of rayquaza, they might not do many raids of it., and it will give players a lot more time to build up their dust piles for when ray does come back (That and rayquaza not returning before we get mamoswine is a massive bonus)

that'd be nice, but with about 700+ players, and only about 300 actively playing, some wont get the memo. after they rayquaza thing, some of the mods tried to get people to not rumor post, hope it works

Definitely overthinking.

Palkia is before Dialga because Dialga is a great counter to Palkia; does Dragon damage (SE against Palkia) but is not weak to either Dragon or Fire, and resists Water. A powered up team of 6 Dialga is the best counter to Palkia. Rayquaza might be a bit faster, but you'll go through maybe twice as many of them.

We had the same thing when Groudon came out before Kyogre (the first time). Kyogre is a strong counter for Groudon, whereas Groudon is an OK counter for Kyogre (good if Kyogre has Thunder). So they gave us Groudon first.

The thing I'm getting from this is that in Gen3, they released the Weather Trio consecutively, Groudon, then Kyogre, then Rayquaza with a brief revisit from the first two during Rayquaza's run. It looks like they will space out Giratina, Palkia, and Dialga, which makes more sense; bad idea to give us all the good stuff up front, and then stick us with months of the Regis all in a row.

I heard they did the same with groudon and kyogre, Groudon came first as kyogre would be super good for groudon.

Dialga would be the bst counter, but I think only for draco meteor, Palkia double resists fireblast while dialga's neutral to it and only resists hydropump x1, palkia's double. Though both would still be fantastic

Im wondering if now we might see origin forme giratina pop up, though doubt it.

Origin forme Giratina will pop up, just not sure when. They might do a revisit of Giratina with both formes. Maybe soon, maybe later. Or they could go back to Suicune raids, ....
