Confusion/Pcycho cut on mewtwo

I know the effectiveness change happened a while back, but this though hadn't occurred to me until now. Does confusion as a fast move have a place anymore with the change to effectiveness?

Aside from on double psychic mewtwo, confusion was worse than psycho cut then the charge move was at an effectiveness gap of 2 or more levels above psychic (double super effective, or psy resisted, charge move super effective) , or when the charge move was weather boosted. Now that effectiveness is a factor of 1.6, and psycho cut always had more EPS, on top of psycho cut being seemingly better for PvP (havent heard anything about confusion, while psycho cut is a pvp clone of mudshot and thundershock, which are 2 of the best moves from what ive heard) is there any real reason to use confusion on a mewtwo when the charge moves are super effective now that the effectiveness has changed? (again, not including double psychic mewtwo, or shadow ball mewtwo V gengar)

If so, I think a lot of people will be glad to not need to use a fast tm per mewtwo everytime a new raid boss comes along where one move was better, then the next boss had the other move be better.

See, the problem is, most sites show only DPS rather than DPS/TDO. For example, when you look for best Gengar counters (Like, in Pokemongoinfo), it shows Confusion/Psychic Mewtwo doing a full 100% damage in comparision to other mons. However, that's only it's DPS.

For my personal experience Soloing Machamp, Mewtwo does a good chunk of damage using Confusion, but it's so slow! You can't avoid anything. On the other hand, with Psycho cut, you do less damage but you can avoid and Charge your charged move faster. In PVP I always pick Psycho Cut over Confusion cause it's way faster and both don't have an important difference on damage output. (If you're using Shadow Ball, go for Psycho cut)

I dont disagree, ive always preferred psycho cut, but im wondering if because of the rebalance in effectiveness, this makes confusion have less DPS than psycho cut, there by making psycho cut the superior move in almost every match up.

Ignoring that Mewtwo is better used for getting shields out (since it charges fast with psycho cut), if you were hypothetically going to use a Mewtwo with SB/FB or TB/IB as a sweeper once shields are down, perhaps Confusion would be better.

The idea being that with Confusion, that Mewtwo threatens from 3 types of damage. If the Mewtwo can survive a charge attack from its opponent, it will KO with it's first charge attack regardless of who the opponent is.

However, even in that scenario I'd imagine Psycho cut allowing you to just get the charge move off first is better.

For raids... I'd imagine in Windy weather Confusion is still superior if it's not two tiers of super effective lower (perhaps also true in neutral weather too). Obviously if Psychic and Ghost are SE then Confusion is better still.

windy weather boost wasnt what I was talking about.

I was asking about in a setting there the charge move is super effective, and psychic is neutral, is confusion or psycho cut better with the effectiveness change.

Um. Its hard to understand your question because in the situation you are describing Psycho Cut was already more effective so its obviously still more effective after the changes.

Thats because the only situation where that really happens is against a Psychic pokemon. The only other situation it occurs that I can think of is against Alolan Marowak. Its not a matchup I am familiar with so I can't speak to which had the best DPS beforehand.

Oh I guess Giratina would be another one, but the dragons so thoroughly best Mewtwo there...its almost not even worth mentioning.

I cant think of any other Ghost type raid bosses other than Gengar, Giratina and Alolan Marowak.

Gengar is quite a bit better against Giratina too.

Against Psychic types is where the SB Mewtwo had its niche because of the resistance it has and the frailty of Gengar due to its weakness.

Generalists are kind of dead, Machamp raid is dead easy and unless it was a double psychic Mewtwo it wasn't winning any speed awards there anyway, so there is almost no reason not to have Psycho Cut at this point since its superior in PvP and you cant put Mewtwo in a gym.
