Lucky pokemon from trade

I traded a Gengar caught in Sep 2016 for a mewtwo caught in 2018. Both my friend's and my account have less than 10 lucky pokemons. But the trade did not result in either of the traded pokemons being lucky. Why is that so? I thought its guaranteed as long as one of the pokemons in the trade is caught in 2016?
