Thubder or Thunderbolt?

I have 14 Jolteon. But meager CPs. The highest being 1100 range. It may be stupid to ask this considering I am a level 35 trainer but I want to to this awesome community's opinion and reaction on this matter. What do you really recommend for Jolteon's charge move? Thunder has more DPS but long wind up time that makes Jolteon vulnerable. He's already squishy. Thunderbolt allows for more dodging opportunities which is really helpful considering Jolteon's low Stamina. I don't have any powered up electric types and I think it's high time to get one. I've been dealing with Gyarados using Exeggutors since I have 7 of them. Yeah, I know... SE on Bite. Thanks in advance!

Both are good on attack (I've powered one of each up and use them all the time).

Powered up to 2500ish they're not as squishy.

If you prefer Vaperon with Hydo you'll probably prefer Thunder. If you prefer Aqua Tail...

I tend to base which I use on the defender (if I know it) - i.e. if they use single bar I'll go Thunder, if they've got multiple bar attacks I'll take advantage of dodging and go 2 bar too.

I'd love to do this as well however dust is an issue. I only have 300k at the moment. That's why I want to be sure. I'm really torn about these two moves. I try to dodge everything and I can safely say I do it 90% of the time esp. the charge moves. I'll probably power up Thunder since it does more DPS. I don't have any plans to use Jolteon as a defender though. But I feel vulnerable when using 1 bar charge moves.

I'm a Thunder User, so let me share with u some experiences. My Jolteon is at level 38.5.
1. For Gyarados < 2000cp, a full cycle will do.
2. For Gyarados at 2200-2800cp, I need a full cycle + additional a dozen of Thunder Shocks. It's especially awkward at 2800cp - just enough energy to launch the 2nd Thunder but actually several Thunder Shocks are quicker, so a full energy bar is wasted.
3. For Gyarados over 3000cp, two cycles are more than enough to take any Gyarados. For attacking mine (at 38.5 also with Hydro Pump), I don't dodge. The Hydro Pump hit boost the 2nd cycle's energy by a lot, so Jolteon uses the 2nd Thunder sooner.

Note that Thunder is good at taking two 2800cp Gyarados in a row - exactly 3 cycles.

Wonderful insight friend. I'll probably power up my Thunder Jolteon. All of them are 82.2%IV above and the best I got is around 96%.

Thunder – defender without a charge move with 1 bar and you don't dodge all the time.

Thunderbolt – you are the person who dodges only the charge moves or quick moves which is less common.

Discharge – you want to dodge every attack, but the move is useless when attacking, good defending.

I feel like I'm as vulnerable during thunderbolt as when using thunder. Even though the cooldown is less, it seems like I still get hit by watergun toward the end of the move either way. And I dodge everything .. or try to anyway.

So, I prefer thunder since it does more damage.

if youre a level 35 trainer then you experience more battles recently unless youre a cheater :) thunder then youll know the feeling when you gonna use it in battle if youre a level 35 trainer :)

You do realize I put a disclaimer there that I use Exeggutor to deal with Gyarados? Probably not. I don't have any powered up Electric types that's why I'm asking. Jolteon's primary role here is to destroy Gyarados. You can probably throw warer types too but there are stronger Pokémons designed to deal with water types.

thats why thunder is better if youll kill insantly gyarados because for low hp pokemon, you need to kill them faster , bcoz if you use bolt, youll still get a hit by a fast move 1 attack, or a charge move enough time to kill your jolt. no need to keep the battle long as its continue long youll be taking damage even more even with dodging. thats why we recomend youll use thunder as it ikll insantly a pokemon and youll no longer taking more damage even if youre dodger specialist.

I think getting hit by bite is not really an issue since it's not that strong of an attack. The issue is being vulnerable to charge moves. I had that same considerations when choosing my Jolteon to power up. I now have 2 - one with thunder, one with thunderbolt - and I like the one with thunder better although I'm a dodger.
But both are really great against Gyarados.

For comparison. At the same level, the Gyarados Bite does the same damage as the Vaporean Water Gun.

Personally, Thunderbolt for prestigers (CP 1000 - 1500) and Thunder for actual high CP attackers.

Thanks for those who shared their knowledge and insights. I'll probably power Thunder since DPS is more important for Pokémons with little Stamina.

Even though I'm apparently in the minority here, I personally much prefer Thunderbolt. It just feels more smooth and I can use it pretty safely whenever I want even against Vapes with Water Pulse - I'm the type of player who dodges everything, which I think it's even more important with Jolteon given its low stamina. My level 32 Thunderbolt Jolteon can destroy several 3000 Gyarados in a row and I love her to death.

Thunder, on the other hand, I kinda have to wait until the opponent's charge move to perform it and as Thundershock kinda sucks as a quick move, I feel like I end up with less damage to the opponent, and more to me because of missed dodges.

In the end, though, it's more of a personal preference than an actual difference. They're both great movesets and worthy of powering up imo.
