Question about Muk

Hello guys, I wanted to ask if some of you use regularly Muk as a defender and how it performs, I am a bit surprised that he is not on any top tier of defensive mons, he has a good stamina and decent defense and a pretty high CP with the last changes. Also he does not have many weakneses.

I am thinking about powering mine up, got a 91% one with perfect defensive moveset (PJ/DP), I try to diversify and use different mons. What are your experiences with him? Do you think it is worst than for example some tier 2.5 or tier 3 mons like Venusaur, Cloyster, Hypno, Clefable, Tentacruel etc?

Muk isn't particulary bad, but this is the special case of bad typing match up.

First of all Psychic type moves is pretty much kills Muk faster than other "walls" such as Lapras and Snorlax who has limited foes counters them in the first place.

Alakazam literally kills muk faster than a speeding train for god sake, even Common attackers such as snorlax with ZH, Exeggutor with ZH + Psy, Slowbro water gun + Psy, and even Rhydon/Golem with MS/EQ literally dancing in his grave.

Muk is good only for pure grass and fairy attackers if they gonna add some to the meta. But in the mean time, Muk is spelled backwards which is sucks.

If you want to upgrade your Muk for defensive go ahead, but this meta will f*** him up so fast coz of his typing only.

Ok thank you for advice. Also take into consideration that I am not talking him as a top tier defender, just want to diversify on my defenders to give more life to the game and gyms on my area, giving the other weakneses of top 2.5 or top 3 defender I think he has not that bad typing, most people won't use Snorlax for offense and with Exeggutor Muk will deal SE damage back too.

I agree with Alakazam but Muk on defense has dark type move so it will deal SE on each charge move and with Alakazam low HP if you miss dodge it can mean a faint.

I will of course consider your points, more worried about Rhydon as you stated and Golem too.

He was taken off the list due to rhydon. He was never really spectacular pre rhydon, just better than average.

Ignoring that, Muk is one of the rarest Mon in the game and you have the right moveset. I wouldn't hesitate to power it.

Yes, this is what most worries me, Rhydon buff makes Muk worst than before for sure. Thank you for your advice, I will consider of course ;)

Mixed. His CP is good, but not great. Worse than Eggy, which at least in my gym meta means that there is no way he is going to be very high in most gyms, unless your trainer level is significantly above most people's level.

I agree with TsarKlauser mostly, with a couple exceptions. Eggy might be super effective on Muk, but Muk is super effective to him to. For me, that's enough to pick a different Mon. Most of the other Muk counters he mentions people will likely have, but might only pick to bring specifically for Muk (that's what I might do). To me, that's a strength. You have to pick 6 attackers against often more that 6 defenders, so you want multi purpose attackers. In the end, if you have enough dust, I'd do it. He's definitely better than the other lower tier Mons you mentioned imo. The question really wasn't if Muk is better than Snorlax after all.

Totally agree with you too, I am not talking about him being one of my top tier defenders, I have maxed Snorlax, Dragonite, Vaporeon, Poliwrath, Exeggutor and two maxed Gyarados (even some of this I don't think are good for defensive purposes they are some of the most used gym meta). A part from Lapras (which I can't get with a defensive moveset if I am not really lucky with egg lottery) there is no much more mons for me at this moment to power up for defensive, that is why I wanted something different, even not being a top tier I am really considerating powering him up.

I am currently level 34, almost 35, sitting on 420k of dust and each level is getting harder and need more time, so don't think dust is an issue at this point, candies I am lucky enough that on my town grimer spawn "ocassionally", not every day but I have got 5 Muks during the game duration as now and still have around 60 candies left.

Of course I don't ever thought about him being like Snorlax, but I wanted to know if it is worth the investment as a 6th or 7th defender.

I'm 31.5, and everything already feels slower once I maxed my best mons, because it take so long for the next level. Do you have a Conf/Psych Slowbro you can max?

Nope, that is probably one of the few I am missing, I have tried like 5 Slowpoke evolutions and none with that moveset, I only have one more above 85%IV but I am waiting for Slowking...

He has good bas stats and a decent defensive moveset.
But his typing is bad. He is countered by several common attackers (Zam, Exeg, Slowbro) and gets triple disavantage vs Rhydon and golem. He is the only one who is double resisted while they can do SE damages to him. That is why he is out of defenders tier list.

But since he his so uncommon, most people wont know that Rhydon and Golem are super heros vs him. So he will probably do a decent job as a defender (like a tier 2,5 mon against most attackers) and he is so cool. I'm working on a 93% one with PJ/GS. I would have liked DP for defense but mine can be an attacker as well so i like him.
I would invest as much dust as i could on your Muk.

There is one guy who powered up a muk to 2300CP and put it in a gym nearby.
I can remember that this pokemon is still doing the job, tanky enough to be annoying, but the thing is always the same: no matter the pokemon in the gym, in the end when you want to take it down, you just go for it...

What is interesting with muk is that it is not very common to fight against it, and many people are not aware of the weakness of a "new" pokemon they are fighting.

I guess muk has its chance, but when people will discover that rhydon is super effective on him, I doubt it will be relevant to power him up again and again when you will level up.

As somebody already mentionned it, muk will also have CP issue, since everybody is looking for gyarados/rhydon to put in gyms to get to the top, I am afraid muk is going to go back to his pokeball as fast as you put it in the gym :/

I only use him solely for his badass finger flicking and trash cans lobbing....
