Speed Stat Implementation for PvP???

I'm guessing Niantic would (they should actually) but if they do it, will the other battle systems (gyms and raids) be changed as well?

I very much doubt they will. Implementing the speed stat properly would also mean having to redo the ATK and DEF stats since both currently utilise that as part of their formulas. They've already tinkered with DEF recently, so I can't see them doing that again, or at least not so soon.

I think the real question goes much deeper. I never played classical Pokemon games, so please correct me if I am wrong: The Speed stat determines the order of Pokémon that can act in battle. Pokémon with higher Speed at the start of any turn will generally make a move before ones with lower Speed. But battles in Go are not turn based! There is no reason to assume that PvP battles will be.

Your understanding is correct, Pokemon with higher speed stats generally act before those that are slower. There are exceptions to this as some moves have priority over others, while some make the user go last no matter what.

PvP will not be turn based. Niantic and Game Freak have stated they intend to keep the battle mechanics distinctly separate. Granted, the idea of a speed stat influencing things like move cooldown or energy gain would be neat but potentially too complex for Niantic to want to implement.

In the meantime details of the battle mechanics have been given. Looks not too bad to me. I like the option for long-distance fights with Hyper- and Best friends. Wonder how the second charge attack is selected? Well, there are going to be dozens of posting about this in the next hours. :-)
