Is Melmetal useless in Pokemon GO?
400 candies to evolve, but needs to be walked for 20K for one candy. Unless you own (or know someone who owns) the Nintendo Switch with the "Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!" and "Let's Go, Eevee!" game, it's going to take a long time to evolve it. On top of that, it lacks a steel fast move and only has Flash Cannon which isn't the best steel charge move. Dialga seems to be better option with having higher ATK stat but less bulk (and also having a better moveset). I think that Melmetal is going to be better as a bulky electric attacker (Thunder Shock+Thunderbolt), even though Melmetal has more weaknesses than a pure electric type (but also a lot of resistances). I'm also pretty sure you cannot place Melmetal in a gym so I don't have opinions about defense and on the other charge moves (Hyper Beam and Rock Slide). I'm almost certain they aren't that viable on offense. With the information about Melmetal that is currently on GamePress, I don't see myself spending Rare Candies on Meltan.

Interesting... but with Melmetal movesets, he isn't good on defense. Rock Slide and Thunderbolt are both 2 bar moves so it's best to foucs on them: Rock Slide can hurt fire types but nothing else. Thunderbolt is worse, with counters either resisting it or just getting nutural damage. and Thunder Shock is very bad on defense, if he had Volt Switch then things would've looked better. It seems there's no counter coverage aside from Rock Slide.
No wonder Niantic is on thin ice. No decision they made on any Pokemon or this game in general is correct since the Regis came.
You are better off trying to fill your box with machamps and tyranitars and ignore the legendary or new dex entries because every new pokemon they make is close to swellow or cradily viability due to the perfectly planned despair movesets.
I beg to differ.
I think making Metagross meta-relevant after all, giving players a chance to get a Lick Gengar (so that the ancient Shadow Claw is not so missed after all) and nerfing Blissey and wherebouts are all moves in the right direction.
Electrivire, Magnezone, Weavile, and Mamoswine are all getting good movesets they deserve.
Also, Dialga is gonna be awesome no matter what, while Palkia raids will bring back the Kyogre-level of difficulty, after all those easy-peasy Giratinas.
I'd say that so far, there have been only two major disappointments: Giratina (both formes) getting the crappiest-of-the-crappy Shadow Sneak and Togekiss not getting a fast Fairy move.
