I think your impression will depend on
1. How many times you have played Kanto before
2. Have you played pokemon yellow before
3. How much you know and care about the Jessie/James story
Personally I didn't know much about the anime and have played Kanto only once, and not pokemon yellow. It is good fun so far.
If you are coming directly from Go you are might struggle a bit but you will probably know typings and can suffice without and set up moves, and the catch mechanics may be slightly familiar. Not sure how transferring pokemon from go will help you in this game.
