Windy Mewtwo = RIP

I know it goes without saying that windy weather mewtwo raids are hard, but this is honestly hilarious. I sent out my SC gengar (below the IV's for ability to take 4 confusion unboosted) and it went do so fast, I dont think I was able to get out a charge move. Thankfully it was a confusion/Psychic set so it was manageable with my (single) tyrantar and (3) mewtwo, but this has seriously made me rethink using gengar against mewtwo raids as its going to be windy for the next few days here, and i'm wondering what I should sub in for it. I only have the one gengar on my team, nd I dont know what to sub in for it, these raids are extremely revive intensive for me and I dont want to keep loosing revives on a pokemon that doesnt really help, I dont have any other tyranitar or mewtwo.

Rayquaza would be my first choice then. Look for that flow chart going around.

Wind boosted Confusion took out my maxed Gengars in 3 shots. However, a wind boosted Salamance reaches an ultra friend breakpoint that makes it better than Dragonite, and if you go against FB it has pretty good TDO. Also, dragons (Rayquaza, Dragonite, Salamance) become supreme counters when wind boosted

Complaining over a weather Boosted mewtwo...

How exactly is asking what would be a good substitute for gengar against mewtwo a complaint? It isnt. I was just wondering what to use in place of a gengar.

You get to catch boosted Mewtwo for days, lucky you! It's never windy here.

Well, you shouldn't be using a glass cannon against a boosted boss. Go for something else as people suggested.

You used Gengar, then complained when it died quickly LMAO.

I've never joined the "power up Gengar" club because it's too glass cannon. There are many better options like a dragon or Tyranitar that are viable against far more raids.

I wasnt complaining about that, I was saying that gengar goes down very easily to windy mewtwo and was wondering what to sub in instead as I dont feel it worth the revive and healing items as these raids are very item intensive given how hard mewtwo hits and how much HP it has. If I was complaining, the wording of the question would have been very different.

This also made me question just how good/worth gengar really is as a mewtwo counter, when Deoxys comes to Ex raids it will be better for that because deoxys is a joke and can actually last a bit longer than it can against mewtwo if Deoxys has counter/swift

Gengar will be awesome against counter Deoxys but against zen headbutt Deoxys, RIP. Same when comparing it's performance against a psycho cut mewtwo to a confusion Mewtwo.

Not worth powering up a pokemon that dies within seconds if the boss has the wrong quick move.

I fought 8 weather boosted Mewtwo the other day and led with my Gengar each time just because I had a premade team. Confusion hits like a truck but I was still able to get off 2 shadow ball. I swapped a Sky Attack Moltres onto my team because of the weather boost and my Moltres is powered up, plus it resists Flamethrower and Focus Blast variants and isn’t weak to Ice Beam or Psychic.

Simulations suggest using Dragons in windy weather, so if you have Rayquaza, Dragonite, or Salamence to use, switch your Gengar out for them.

If the Mewtwo you’re facing has Psycho Cut you can use Gengar more efficiently. I found that just spamming Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball while dodging charged moves can really take a chunk out of Mewtwo’s health early, even when weather boosted. Some people I was raiding with weren’t using counters (saw some Aggron, Cloyster, Steelix etc), so this boost guaranteed me more premiere balls.

I use Gengar against windy Mewtwo and it usually get to fire off 1-2 charge attacks.

However, one time when the raid started it lagged a bit and when I got to join my Gengar had already lost a lot of health so it fainted before I could use the charge attack.
Maybe that was what happened to you?

Because even though Gengar is a glass cannon and Mewtwo deals a lot of damage to it, it should still get to fire off atleast one charge move.

Houndoom is nice and resists fire and ice. Still falls after 2 undodged charge moves but it's decent. SB Alakazam is also interesting as a glass cannon resisting psychic.

For the "4 Confusion unboosted" comment, you're mixing that up with Alakazam. At no point, boosted or unboosted, can any Gengar survive 4 Confusion from Mewtwo. At 15d IV Confusion deals 31 damage unboosted to L40 Gengar. Times 4 this is 124 damage. A 15hp IV L40 Gengar has 106hp. Unless you attempt to dodge a Confusion or two it won't survive, and dodging fast moves can hurt DPS too much to be beneficial.

It's much harder to predict from the auto-select but Gengar truly shines against Psycho Cut Mewtwo exclusively. Otherwise if you're anticipating windy weather dragons make acceptable counters. Watch out for Ice Beam though.

Hi MM, are you saying that Singapore gets "windy" weather? If so, how often? If often then I would travel to Sg (from Thailand) to catch weather boosted Psychics and Dragons. I go to Sg often but have not seen windy weather before. Anyway please clarify if your windy experience was a one off or a regular thing. We simply don't get windy in Bkk.
