Worth trying to build an Alakazam solo team?

Having decided to max my Tyranitar, I realised that a viable Alakazam solo team may not be that far away.

The following four are very likely to make it:
L30 Gengar, SC/Sh, 13/15/13
L40 Tyranitar, Bi/Cr, 15/13/15
L30 Tyranitar, Bi/Cr, 13/15/13
L30 Tyranitar, Bi/Cr, 12/15/15

Candidates for the remaining two slots:
L30 Gengar, Hx/Sh, 14/14/10
L30 Gyarados, Bi/Cr, 14/13/12
L30 Houndoom, Sn/FP, 15/13/11
L30 Scizor, FC/XS, 12/12/15

Candidates for investment:
L15 Pinsir, BB/XS, 14/15/11
L30 Tyranitar, SD/Cr, 15/15/10 (41 FTMs, 4 low-level, high-IV ones with SD)
L24 Gengar, SC/Sh, 13/13/9*

*If Gengar gets Lick (or SC again), I would really regret investing in this non-wonder.

Raiding Mewtwo is far more attractive than risking a wasted pass if the Alakazam solo fails. Of course, many counters to Alakazam will also be great for Mewtwo (which is why Pinsir made the third list).

I would invest in Gengar sc/sh 13-13-9 and Gengar Hx-Sh.
Maybe Gengar will never get Lick or Shadow Claw, maybe in a few months. In the meantime you catch more gastly (candy) and get more dust, so i don't think it's a waste.
Personally i would never TM a (good) legacy move, so i would tm the tyranitar eventually to SD/SE instead of B/Cr.
Building a better team for Alakazam means also a better team for mewtwo as they have similar typing and moveset.

Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. How much do you value the achievement of being able to do so, and realistically do you think you'll be able to pull away from Mewtwo raids to attempt it?

I'm in a sort of similar situation, having never completed an Alakazam or either Hitmon solo. I would love to try them again but so far haven't been able to pull away from T5 raids (~30 Moltres raids, never encountered a shiny). With Mewtwo coming out today I doubt I'll be raiding anything else for a while. It's a little unfortunate; In addition to the solo attempts I'd like to raid some lower-tier raids for the candy (Electabuzz, Magneton, Dratini) but it is what it is. Who knows when we'll get another chance to amass boatloads of Mewtwo candy.

As you mention though building an Alakazam team will make a great Mewtwo team as well. Unless lucky that Pinsir is a little low-level for my tastes.

All about your personal priorities. I don't have a shiny Zapdos but I couldn't care less about going through the trouble of attending those raids, so all my passes go towards solos. Mewtwo will change things, but I'm willing to use premium passes on solos if they're interesting enough to me.

Priorities are what give life to the game. I just wanted to be able to say I caught a shiny Moltres instead of only having the one traded to me. Had I found a shiny early on like I hoped I would have focused on the solo/candy accumulation scene more.

I'm sure my next rut will be continuing to hatch these 7k eggs and not hatch a Kangaskhan. After 42 hatches and nothing so far it seems to be how this is going to play out.

Ouch. The regionals do seem to have a fairly low rate and then you need to hit the correct regional to boot. Wish you luck, still fair bit of time to hatch the 7ks.

Priorities indeed give life to the game. Would be very boring if everybody was going for the same things like a bunch of robots.

I haven't attempted any Hitmon solos either, mostly because I don't want to invest in more Psychic resources because they don't have wide current application. I'm probably on the cusp of getting it done with what I have, but I don't think it's worth it. I'll see what happens with M2's moves this afternoon. If it gets a kick-ass Psychic-type move, I'll power that up as a lasting investment and the Hitmons won't be an issue after that.

If you have a Mewtwo with C/SB, it's a viable Hitmon counter from about level 35 up. And that's a lasting investment for sure.

I did a Hitmonchan recently and it's for me tougher than Confusion Alakazam.

The only mon I had that got really ahead of the clock was L35 Sky Attack Moltres, all the others only kept up with the clock, including a L32 AS/AA Rayquaza, L40 PC/ShB Mewtwo and the bunch of psychic Espeons.

Dont TM that Smackdown tyranitar. What you need is 2 gengars in the remaining slots, or even a Shadow Ball Mewtwo (although if you didnt list him then that means you dont have one).

You should invest in that SC gengar, it has very good stats. Depending on Alakazams moveset, I think your team should be ok, just make sure every Gengar gets 2-3 shadow balls off.

You already have a team that can solo all movesets, although C/FB will be a challenge.

L40 Tyranitar, L30 SC Gengar, L30 Tyranitar, L30 Hx Gengar, L30 Tyranitar, L30 Houndoom. Dodging required obviously, but it's fairly similar to the team that I used to originally solo all movesets. You need to check whether the second Gengar reaches the bulkpoint of surviving three Confusions though and power it up a bit if necessary.

I would heavily advise against FTMing SD Tyranitar. They are super valuable.

EDIT: Pinsir is not worth investing in unless Rainy is a very common weather in your area. Gyarados has unviable DPS at level 30.

That team probably just barely make it for PC Alakazam with one more (the SC is better) Gengar for your team, and most likely Zam with psychic CM, and it will be very close in time to win it. Beware of the lag that take you starting time and at the end when it take your 5 second. Probably you need to do the saving time tricks.
You have to consider dodge alot with your Gengar and some with other counter. Do not do the kamikaze no dodging style with that level of counter
If you can power it up to level 35 for each counter, then it will be easier to take down PC Zam. Non Focus Blast, you dodging Zam CM with your Gengar and straight no dodging with other. Focusblast you need to consider dodging one Focus blast with tyranitar, use your judgement whether you need to dodge or tank it with the TTar. For Confusion Zam, it is a different story..
Having Mewtwo with PC/SB help a lot.
Goodluck if you still wanna do it, still fun. And you will have a good squad against Mewtwo raid also...
