I found this rather interesting. I'm wondering if they'll give Mewtwo a new move during the month of it's wide release, or if he'll only be able to learn Psychic and Focus Blast.
Either way, this is an interesting development. Shadow Ball is arguably Mewtwo's strongest move. I guess this is a nod to those who spent a lot of time/money getting EX passes regularly, as their Mewtwos now have exclusive moves that it won't learn when it's widely released.
"Arguably"? It's a clear winner in neutral DPS, and is almost as strong as the other moves when the other moves have weakness (or weather for HB) buffing them. It's also the only 2 bar move in Mewtwo's charged moveset, so it fires more rapidly, there's much less (if any) wasted energy, and it does as much damage as the weaker one bar moves (I'm looking at you, Brave Bird, Thunder, Megahorn, and Stone Edge).
For special purposes, FB and Psychic are better, but overall, SB is the clear win in terms of Mewtwo moves.
I'm pretty certain they will add at least one move to the move pool. I don't think there's any pokemon with exactly two charged moves (Ditto just has Transform, and for special cases, we get a raid boss with a unique move, but there always seems to be at least three charged moves).
The wording of the announcement implies that Psychic and Focus Blast will remain, but we could also lose Psychic to a better (or worse) psychic move, and go to a total of three, or we could get a few more, for more variety.
This is going to wreak havoc with the people playing in draft leagues - especially if Mewtwo loses Normal and Ghost and gains 1-2 new attack types.
Finally, one obvious consequence of this is that people without a Mewtwo now won't be able to build up a team of SB Mewtwos to take on the FB Mewtwos that we'll get over the next month, while those of us with SB (and SC Gengars) will make short work of FB.
