My thoughts about the endgame, and using rare candy on gym defenders

While most would say never to use any rare candies on non-legendaries, I drop some on Blissey/Chansey and Snorlax anyway.

For me now, my “metagame” is gold gym badges. I’m not as interested in the raid meta anymore. I still solo T3s for the challenge, sometimes with 6 unique mons and all that, but I just somehow enjoy the repetitive Machamp vs Blissey battling in GRB-defended gyms. The gym meta is really just Machamps, maybe Lugia, defenders, potions and berries.

I personally think that the lack of an “endgame” in PoGo is good. It means players can choose to play however they want to play, like the raid meta, gym meta, maxing favourite mons, or just collecting different special mons.

Yes, the gym meta is a grind, and might be completely stale in some areas; but there’s some depth to it, at least in my area. For example, getting gold badges is completely different in Instinct-dominant (yes they exist here), team-balanced, Instinct minority, and areas where Instinct stands next to no chance.

I’ve also started a personal challenge to max my Snorlax from L38 to L40 (54 candies) using only candies from feeding in gyms. Yes, I know it’s gonna take about 5000 berries. But that’s also enough gym badge points to take 2 gym badges from silver to gold.
Or wild Snorlax, if I’m lucky enough to see another one.

PS: My buddy now is Togetic, to prepare to max a Togekiss as soon as it drops in Gen 4.

Edit: As for T5 raids here, if you arrive before the egg hatches, it rarely matters whether you use optimal counters or even just slack off in the lobby.

But it does makes a difference sometimes. 2 weeks ago, I was at a L5 Regirock raid right before it started. There were only 5 people (all spread out, no communication) and 8 players in the lobby. The raid finished with 40 seconds left. If I wasn’t there or if I didn’t use Machamps and Kyogres, the raid would have likely failed. While L5 raids in residential areas usually have at least 1 full lobby at the start, I’ve seen (on rare occasions) a few go completely “bo lang” (not a single soul around) for the entire 45 minutes.

I'll quit when I get a perfect lucky abra. Although might try for a perfect lucky Machop after that. Has to be things that are stardust cheap and I already have lots of candy, otherwise just a different roadblock to maxing.

***Never played a mobile game before this, however, I have picked up playing Jurassic World Alive past two months. When I go to different areas I will have PoGo running, catch stuff, check gyms/raids out. Then I'll switch to see any dinosaurs around. When home I'll sort PoGo stuff, then look to see if any dinosaurs. Then dino battle other players to gain dino incubators. The battle dynamic isn't complicated, there are arena levels and it just has 1 move at a time. A game that combines going outside plus being able to do something while on the couch/passively tv/football watching seems like a more well-rounded game

I understand where you're coming from. I had a lot of fun earlier this year with a bunch of gold gym projects and considered it a significant part of the endgame, but since then I've gotten a bit tired of the gym meta.

Now I mostly grind for lucky dex and try to max as many pokemon as possible. Might reach 100 after the event ends today.

PS. Ingress is a great game and with a goplus/gotcha you can keep passively grinding pogo while you play Ingress.

I've been doing this lately after someone lent me a Gotcha. Despite it's simplicity, taking over a portal in Ingress just feels alot more satisfying than Machamping a gym in PoGo. Especially when that portal lets you create a giant control field. I kinda wish the territory control aspect of Ingress was a part of PoGo.

I’m making some progress on the lucky dex screen collecting: 64 gen 1; 29 Gen 2; 49 Gen 3. Some more screens I could claim but don’t want to evolve somewhat valuable things that could get something exclusive.

Overall I have been slowing on that front though, I catch way more with my main account. On my level 37 all I have left that is tradeable: 100% kirlia, 100% Torchic, treecko, two Tyranitar, 98% Shelgon, three 98% level Rayquaza, level 35 shiny Kyogre, 96% Latios and Latias. 2350 trades so far.

I got a goal now of trying to obtain and max out every legendary including shiny variants, which is something like 248 candy per legendary and 496 candy per legendary with a shiny variant.

Also want a maxed out of every 10k hatch excluding Sudowoodo and Skarmory, and two of them if they have multiple viable movesets (Tyranitar (+ cday), Dragonite (+ cday), Gardevoir (x2), Metagross (x2 + cday), Milotic, Flygon, Blissey (x2), Snorlax (x2), Porygon)

Why the hate on Sudowoodo and Skarmory? They haven't been in 10ks for ages though so I wouldn't really count them at all, might as well call Eevee a 10k hatch.

I agree that PoGo does not need, and should not have, a designated "endgame". The real problem is that the game lacks the depth for hardcore players to build their own endgames.

In areas where gym defence matters, Chansey is worth spending rare candy on.
