Lost rarecandies

While traveling by car (I wasn't driving), I tried to convert 21 rare candies into Moltres candies. And they suddenly disappeared. I'm pretty sure about how many candies I already had, so no, those 21 didn't become Moltres ones. What could I do now? I think they're gone forever.

You did 1) Backpack>Rare Candy>Moltres or 2) Moltres>Menu>Items>Rare Candy
If you did 2) then your candies probably went to the next Pokemon.
