Pokémongo Special Weekend in Japan

I’m in Japan and am trying to do the special weekend event. I followed the instructions to go into the sponsored store and get the QR code. The workers keep on telling me that the QR code doesn’t work. I know that you need to go to certain stores on different days. Any ideas why?
