Should i go for Houndoom/Abosl?

I know that tyranitar is the superior dark type, for now and likely all future generations, but I do have a general lac of dark types, as in I have one 98 tyranitar that I got super lucky from a raid, and almost never see any tyranitar.

My other dark types are yet to be powered up are a perfect craudaunt and shiftry, and was wondering would it be worth it to get a houndoom or absol as another dark attacker because tyranitar raids are somewhat scarce and generation 4 has a great many psychic types and giratina

Houndoom has a superior moveset and a different typing to offset being weaker.

Plus it looks cooler.

He is also eligible for Mega Evolution.

Try to trade and get a Lucky Houndoom so you can power it up at half the stardust cost. I'm sure a lot of people won't mind trading one.

Tyranitar also gets a mega. The lucky idea isn't bad though, assuming he can still reliably get candy for it.

You are very right. But I was answering the Houndoom Vs Absol question and bringing up the Mega idea that he may be a better investment because of that than Absol. T-Tar will always be better Dark choice no doubt.

Though it will be interesting to see how mega gyarados compares with its double dark set as it too has a mega, and becomes dark type

hmm, not too bad, considering its likely going to be a lot easier to get more gyarados than tyranitar, that DPS trade off may be worth it

Just be patient, you will hatch larvitar or get more Tyranitar through raids. One Houndoom paired with 5 Tyranitar would be a good team, but I would not go for Absol.

I mean, its been about 2 weeks since any tyranitar raids popped up, and we have a lot of people out there who can see gyms

Jesus, two weeks? We get itchy if there aren't any after one day, how the hell do you go two weeks without spotting one?

Perfect or not, Crawdaunt is a bit lacking in the DPS department, as is Shiftry. Absol has higher DPS than Tyranitar but is paper thin. Houndoom has slightly less DPS than Tyranitar but considerably more damage output than Absol - so long as it has Snarl/Foul Play.

DPS-wise, any of the three between Absol, Tyranitar, and Houndoom will have similar performance, deviating less than half a point of DPS from highest to lowest. In all honesty you're likely better off finding Tyranitar raids anyway since Absol is raid/research exclusive and Houndour can be hard to find depending on where you live. Tyranitar also has the advantage of rewarding the most candies per raid should you catch it, meaning you'd need to do less of them for the same end result.

That was more or less my point, the only good dark type I have is tyranitar, and my others are mediocre at best, I hope gen IV treats honckrow well, becaue I got a perfect murkrow for that

How is your candy situation on both? Or you could simply wait...I'm curious to see what Honchkrow or mismagius might get.

5 larvitar candy

Same here, perfect murk I got in my only instance of foggy weather im saving, got about 450 murkrow candy. I hope gen IV treats its dark types well, weavile, honchkrow, I hope they're good (also mismagius is a ghost type, not dark)

Mismagius was likely included since dark and ghost types get used against the same targets for the most part.

Agree with that, but their use also depends on what moveset the oppoent has, something like focus blast mewtwo dark types are a no go, but agaisnt shadow ball sets ghost types arent an option. Ghost types and dark types seem to be used agaisnt the same pokemon species, but agaisnt different movesets

My point was ghost and dark are basically the same. If you attack into psychic pokemon, ghost and dark both hit it SE. Depending on the bulk, a ghost type may be a better option.

You have to weigh everything. Gengar is a favorite of many to attack into psychic pokemon, even tho it is weak to psychic type moves. Maybe the psychic pokemon has focus blast, then ghosts would be better.

Don't forget double dark Gyarados over those two as well.

Also, Calcy tells me my level 38, 13 atk Houndoom is pound for pound stronger than my Ttar (all 37 w/15 atk) by 0.5 DPS but only survives 3/5ths as long.

Double dark Gyarados isn't great. It loses in dark-type DPS to the following: Tyranitar, Sharpedo, Absol, Houndoom, Cacturne, Shiftry, Crawdaunt, Sneasel, Murkrow, Alolan Muk. TDO-wise it's alright though.

Houndoom is much better out of the two of them. The DPS is similar but Houndoom is tankier by a solid 50%. Absol is literally paper-thin, frailer than Gengar.

It's also much easier to get candy for Houndoom since raids award more and Houndour nests.

And of course, remember to sit on your high-level Murkrows to evolve in gen 4, Honchkrow has good potential.

Way ahead of you with the Krow, got a hundred percent one (the only instance of fog ive ever seen wild catch), and a mountain of 450 candy

there are going to be a lot of people with "lucky" Murkrows if trading magic favors pokes we've had for over a year.

If you NEED a Dark Attacker now, go for Houndoom. It's a better attacker than Absol. And you have a chance of finding one at Level 25 as it's a Fire type as well, so gets a boost in Clear weather, which lowers the costs to power it up to a useful level by a small - but significant - amount.

If you don't NEED a Dark Attacker now, go for Absol - Absol is easy to beat (2 trainers with Level 35+ Machamps can make mincemeat of it, even in neutral weather), it can be Shiny and when you do beat it, you can Pinap it every time because the catch rate is stupidly high. (It's easier to catch than a (bleeping) Krilia. (Bleep) you, Krilia, (bleep) you.)

A big reason for this is that Houndoom is likely going to be part of any and all future Fire events due to its dual typing AND the low number of Fire Types in the game. (there are what, 8 Fire lines that you can find in the Wild? And a few that get a Fire typing after you evolve them, like Eevee?) After the last Fire event I ended up with over 900 Houndour candies and 5 Houndooms that are worth using in battle; I still have 4 Houndours that I am using as a "Evolve a Fire Type" for Research Quests because I have more candies than I need, so it's an easy way to get a stamp. And on very rare occasions, I find Houndours spawning in the Wild.

No one can say if there's going to be a Fire event coming up in the near future, of course. But if you don't need a Dark attacker in the immediate future, then raiding Absol is the way to go.

Houndour were also everywhere during the last Halloween event. I think I walked away with like 700+ Houndour candy and I didn't really try that hard for them.
