How to save your balls?

Here is what I do:

Hit the mons with 3 regular balls. If all escaped, I get out. Pick up the mons again with 2 regular balls. If all escaped, give a cherry and then great ball. If escaped again, I get out again. Pick up the mons the third time, give a cherry and a great ball.

I've never failed this strategy. All mons (over 10k) are caught in the step 3. Of course, except those who de-spawned.

How do you do? I always teach them when I see somebody throwing tens of balls and getting frustrated.

Don't forget to press up, down, left, right and then spam A and B when catching Pokemon. Anecdotes aren't conclusive evidence.

How do you know that every time a Pokemon fled was because it despawned? Or are you saying that just so that it suits your theory.

If he leaves the catching sesh in the middle, there is a chance the pokemon have despawned during the time he's made 2 or 3 attempts to catch the mon.
He never mentioned any fleeing (spelling?) factor.

There's also the chance that if he doesn't, it will keep breaking out until it flees. It certainly seems like after it breaks out twice, it can't be caught. (RNG bias)
