Disappointing moveset evolutions - any use?

Hi - I have the following mons whose movesets are (to put it politely) other than what I had hoped for!

Charizard - Wing Attack/Dragon Claw
Charizard - Ember/Dragon Claw
Blastoise - Bite/Ice Beam
Blastoise - Water Gun/Flash Cannon
Sandslash - Metal Claw/Rock Tomb
Primeape - Low Kick/Night Slash
Dodrio - Steel Wing/Aerial Ace
Muk - Lick/Dark Pulse
Gengar - Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball
Electrode - Tackle/Discharge
Weezing - Tackle/Shadow Ball

I know it also depends on CP, level etc. but do any of these guys stand out as being any good, maybe as a niche attacker for gym prestiging against a particular defending mon?

Thanks for any help!

I'll keep my 100% IV's with terrible movesets incase we'll be able to reroll attacks/movesets somehow in the future.

Fair play - I only have the luxury of one 100% IV mon - a Machop which I caught ages ago. Not got enough candies to evolve it yet!

Keep the Charizards and the Muk (maybe the Gengar if it has high CP), but get rid of everything else.

The Charizards look good as luxury defenders in a gym.

Thanks for your thoughts Clackers. What do you mean by luxury defenders please? Won't Charizard just get squashed by Vaporeons?

I just meant like a cool uncommon Pokémon to put in a gym to show off (like people putting in Tangela or Alakazam or Muk). Not everybody has one, so when you see it in a gym it seems like a luxury.

And yeah unfortunately Vaporeon will destroy Charizard, but Vaporeon destroys almost everything really.

You could always use Charizard to attack gyms with grass Pokémon in like Venusaur and Vileplume?

I will keep my Charizards and Muk - in fact I'll probably keep them all until I can get better ones. I guess Charizard will work against grass types but with only one fire move out of the two sets of two, I'd probable go with Arcanine and Flareon first, plus I have a Ninetales with the best moveset so I'd probably bring him out for a bit of variety, especially with him being such a handsome beast :-)

Blastoise - Water Gun/Flash Cannon

Best defensive moveset for a Blastoise. Not as good as a Vaperon but does okay in gyms and looks mean :-) Okay for Prestiging against Rhydon too.

Thanks for the reply. I think Blastoise will always be at the back of the queue for powering up as a defender, but I guess I'll keep him in case I run out of defenders!

Is Bite/Ice Beam no good against Dragonite?

I've not evolved one with bite/ice beam - lack of STAB probably makes him pretty unusable.

With Flash Cannon you've got a decent attacker against Clefable (not that you find many Clefable in gyms...).

I would keep the Flash Cannon Blastoise, because the pokemon itself is a defensive one and that is the best defensive MS. And also the Gengar, both moves are ghost and he is the strongest ghost attacker so yeah, the rest are really shitty to be honest, and MS is much more important than IV, meaning even with 100% IV I wouldnt keep them

Thanks. Interesting that you view Blastoise as a defensive mon when the Gamepress review suggests otherwise - what makes you say that please?

Just look at the unit's stats, for example Blastoise has more DEF than ATK (210>171), while Charizard has more ATK than DEF (223>176), so hes clearly an offensive monster. And Venusaur is the balanced starter, equal def and atk. Look at Snorlax, equal def and atk but huge STA, and thats what he is, just a fat mon :D Looking at their stat distribution is the best way to figure them out imo.
For example I got the best defensive MS for Ninetales (at 98% IV) and I was disappointed, cuz I thought its an offensive monster being fire and all that, but in reality she has a lot of defense, a little less than blastoise!

Send your Dragon Claw Charizard against a Dragonite and see for yourself :)

If you spam wing attack and dodge only charge moves that's the fastest way to demolish that Nite. But rest assured imo this is his best move after WA/FT. That D.C. comes in handy.

For prestiging:
1. Your first charizard can hit dragonites fairly well (steel wing isnt super effective against fire)
2. Muk against gengars
3. Gengar against starmies/slowbro's without psychic attacks
4. Sandslash against Jynx and smoochum without ice attacks

I prefer to hold onto my evolutions with unfortunate movesets in the case that Niantic decides to alter movesets again (thereby creating potential legacy movesets).

the only one I would use is the WA/DC charizard, he can be used against dragonite

Charizard with WA + any charge move doesn't suck. I think ember is unbearable though. This first move makes Flareon unbearable.

Your Blastoise with Bite/IB is great. For me its actually the "ideal" moveset for him in general. I evolved a 96 iv with WG/HP, and thankfully a 91 iv with Bite/IB. Why is it good? Because Blastoise resists Dragonite completely and Ice Beam is super effective. He also becomes an egg man killer on defense! Both moves are super effective against egg mans who will most likely be attacking him (ice beam will also hit any grass type)! Blastoise with WG/HP is cool and we all think of his awesome water guns shooting like in the show but Vaporeon outclasses him in this category. There is absolutely no use for WG/HP Blastoise unless you live where there are more squirts than eevee. It’s like Golem and Rhydon, why would you kill yourself for 125 candies when you can just get 50 and get a top tier pokemon?

Well said. Luckily Geodudes are only 1km per candy for any Golem fans out there. But tbh any fast quick attack with a decent charge attack will kill Dragonite at this point. I use arcanine against him with bite/ft only because I think Arc is the baddest Mon currently in the game. It kills 3000+ cp Nites just fine with some dodging.

Thanks man! I wondered about the IB Blastoise for Dragonite slaying, but the only Dragonite move he resists is Steel Wing. I guess I'll try him out for prestiging and see how he goes.
