Time to riot - Articuno doesn't replace Regice on AD

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/8w5cj7/on_articuno_day_both_regice_and_articuno_will_be/

As usual they go with the worst possible implementation; for a supposed reward we unlocked, no less.

I would take it with a grain of salt. Niantic support usually doesn't know what they are talking about.
If this is true it will be such a disaster that we will be compensated by 2 weeks of shiny articuno.

I hope you're right! If it is true, hopefully there's enough of a community response that they will change it before they actually roll out Articuno Day.

Best idea would be to get 4 good raiders in one car, troll the chats and drive around. Use the bigger/clunky groups' info, don't wait for them and/or get there late if you need to hit another one first

If you have a car. And enough people actively reporting on gyms you can't see in your immediate vicinity.

Thats my plan. Problem is I dont have a car and other people of my colour dont have the asshole mentality I have...

My problem is yesterday I gave away a level 35 raiding account to my 12 y/o nephew who lives in northern Sweden. Leaves me with my 40 and a 35, gonna make me find some of the hordes.

Main groups around here will wait 5 min for the 20th person if 19 are ready to go. However, I'm actually fine with doing 2 or 3 raids, Articuno isn't that great and don't care about xp

I was afraid of this. It sounds like the 'reward' eggs will behave exactly like the existing Regice eggs. So I'm wondering if the Articuno eggs won't show up until the start of the event with the regular 45-minute timer. If so, then we won't see our first one until 45 minutes into the event.

But at any rate, I have always said that Niantic really needs to send its employees out on a field trip to play for a day in the suburbs or even rural areas. They really need to get out of their major city bubble, where gyms are everywhere.

As a major city player, this is still a huge inconvenience and will definitely hinder my ability to complete a lot of raids. Driving from place to place is impractical (and expensive) and it will be extremely chaotic trying to plan out paths through the city when there's a significant chance you might have wasted your time heading to a cluster of Regice.

I was also thinking that the event doesn't really start until 3:00 PM EDT, since raid eggs last an hour and they will start spawning at 2:00. That would be consistent with how they've rolled out all previous Legendary Pokemon but they might change it up for this event. This is another time I'm glad that we're in the Western Hemisphere and so we aren't the guinea pigs. Niantic would make much more money off of raid passes, though, if they just made the Articuno raids easy to predict and plentiful, so if this report is true it just reinforces their tremendous stupidity.

Send them to Morocco to EXPERIENCE what it's like to play in a place like Morocco rather than just see what Trainer Tips put on YouTube.

How could players "riot" against Niantic?
1. Stop spending real money on coins.
2. Persuade other players to stop spending real money on coins.
3. Write letters to TPC/GF and the Harry Potter equivalent.
Players who attend botched real-world events (like the Fest last year and recent Safari Zone) could file a class-action suit against Niantic.

"A class-action suit against Niantic"??? For what motive? They didn't break any law. We play the game they release, we play by their rules, period. Don't even think about wasting court time for this, even if that would only take the time for the case to be declared irrelevant, to the expense of people having real problems.

Your other points are just fine. If you feel Niantic is disrespecting its players, teach them the power of a community reaction and mobilise people to boycott in-game purchases for a symbolic day. Strike Niantic where it counts: the bank account.

Niantic actually did face and settle a class-action lawsuit over Go Fest:

Yes, for Go fest. But this Articuno situation is completely different: Go Fest was a paid event hosted by Niantic which required attendees to pay for ticket, transportation and hotels. Money was spent by people for an event and what happened was not what was advertised, so lawsuit and refunds make sense.

Here we are talking about:
* A free event, so no ticket to refund;
* All around the world, so no transportation or hotel cost;
* You don't need to invest any kind of money to participate. At all. The free daily raid pass from the day before and from the same day can be used. If you buy premium raid passes, you can use them this day or another day. Your choice. Nothing exclusive;
* The only thing promised is that Articuno will be available as a raid boss. If it shares the spot with Regice, does it negate the assertion "Articuno will be available as a raid boss"? No.

Everything it changes compared to "Articuno will be the only T5 boss" is that it's less convenient.

I fully agree and that was why my sentence about class-action lawsuits referred specifically to "players who attend botched real-world events like Go Fest".

There's already another screenshot going around of an email from Niantic support that states all raids will be Articuno. Never take anything from them at face value because they generally have no idea what they're talking about.

"Time to riot"? Seriously? That's the word you chose? Sure, it would be annoying. Sure, it would be frustrating to wander around and see more Regices than Articuno. I get that many people have the desire to protest and that's perfectly alright. But please chill out and stop calling for riot because the gameplay of a free mobile video game are annoying...

This was posted on my local Discord several hours ago. This could very well be the case of Niantic support not knowing what they're talking about, since it seems like people are receiving conflicting answers. Here's hoping they do the smart thing and put Regice on hold for the 3hrs on Saturday.
