What's the biggest mistake made by Niantic so far?

The Lapras Event in Japan really pisses me off! Lapra's should be one of, if not the rarest mon in this game. I heard people in Japan caught +200 and obviously trashed 100's of them afterwards!

Yeah it's really kinda messed up that it was so regionally specific. If they do an event it should be global or nothing. If trading ever rolls around the advantage those ppl have will be completely unfair.

I've hatched 1750 eggs and got 1 Lapras so far. Hearing about ppl catching that many makes me just a little bit angry

There was a Tsunami in that area and Niantic did that to help local economy and people who suffered due to the Tsunamis.

I'm not sure that statement needs an "lol" after it. Earthquakes and tsunamis are devastating.

Im sure Nitendo had a little to do with the Japanese lapras event.

Why are you rejoicing about a natural disaster hitting a region again? Because of a video game?

Dude, you need to rethink your priorities...

I'm not sure if I lost my house that playing a cell phone game would be a high priority. Or that having a Lapras is a good replacement for no longer having a car.

A classy move would have been to make it global to raise awareness, make them only catchable with special event balls from the store, and donate a good portion of the proceeds to the relief effort.

What they did was a strange response to the disaster. I'm sure the locals would have preferred my idea

You do know that the goal of this event wasn't to give tsunami victims a free rare pokemon. It was a way to get other people to travel to the region and contribute money to local stores, hotels etc.
Your idea is good as well tho.

I didn't like the Lapras event at all - yes, it was unfair.
There are other places who suffered from natural disasters and got hit even more severely. So others don't deserve compensation?
Niantic was clearly giving preference to Japan, due to whatever reason(s).
The only excuse they could ever make is that they will hold events of this sort in the future.

I am glad, that they did unlish the wave of lapras in japan and not here. I would not want to have to fight Gyms full of those beasts.

p.s.: I don't have a Lapras yet, and i don't miss it.

Shouldn't have been a rare single mon like Lapras. I understand the charity of it all, but at least make those lucky players work a little. Like make it a Dratini event instead. That way they're forced to farm candies and evolve twice to get a rare powerful mon. And the two-stage evolve would've somewhat limited the new Dragonite population.

Wouldn't it have been easier and more effective to allow all players worldwide to donate money within the game to help with the relief in exchange for a Lapras or some other rare Pokemon/item?

The biggest mistake was making Eevees so common. Within minutes, you can obtain the strongest water and electric type pokemon in the game. Every other electric/water final evolutions are harder to find and takes more candies to evolve. Very poor move when it comes to game mechanics.

I don't have a Lapras and I'm not even that petty. Lol the amount of money you would have to invest in this game in order to fly to Japan to that specific tsunami affected region in order to catch some Lapras is commendable. Imo anyways. I'd spend that money in a very different location, but that's just me.

But my biggest gripe about this game is simple it's too simple. There is no goal or end game. What makes me want to keep playing when I complete the dex? (nothing really 4 away excluding babies which I don't even want) This is even worse than the gameboy games at least we could battle other trainers or have a goal which was to beat the elite 4. If we get to lvl 40 so what? lol and it's so dumb being the sole avatar exploring the vastness of this victuaI world and only coming across other trainers via. gym battles. This should be fixed asap imo. I commend players who have filled their dex and continue to play, which I find truly admirable.

Are you sure that you have your facts straight? Where did you hear that folks in Japan caught +200 Lapras and trashed 100+? The main US guys on youtube (trainer tips, Ben) caught something like 10-15 during their trip based on the videos they did.

And this event was sponsored by the local government, not Niantic. The local government paid money (I heard $300k but not sure how reliable this is) for Niantic to do the Lapras event there to drive tourism and help the local economy. This was not a "favor" to the local people like many of the comments seem to insinuate...
