Pokemon Trainers Club Kids Account

My two kids accounts cannot have friends or trade. It is such crap as there is no way for them to communicate through the app and their trainer code is needed to add anyone. I will be contacting Niantic. It really puts them at a disadvantage and my son was really looking forward to getting a MrMime from his grandmother.

Currently they will not let anyone under 13 participate in that part of the game.

Same boat with my daughter. I can understand why they would want to block these features - there's a bit of a creepy vibe to the "Friends" list and the Trading feature that I'm uncomfortable with. The "Last Pokémon Caught" feature is raising my eyebrows, and the requirement to be within 100m of the Trading Partner could potentially be used to track down someone. If they aren't in range, they're more than 100m away from you, but if they are in range...

My guess is that this is a legal issue, and they either know that they can't do this for under-13's or they don't want to risk a lawsuit that they can't win (bad publicity could be worse than actually losing the lawsuit) just to allow kids to access this part of the game.

Pretty sure this is federal law. No site with any social features lets you sign up if you're under 13 (except a very small number that have special hoops to jump through). Every kid learns really fast to lie about age when signing up things. It's great preparation for later in their adolescence when they'll be buying tobacco (or juul pods now I guess?) and beer underaged.

I am betting you do not want your young kids trading "special" things with strange old men in dark alleys at night. This is supposed to help prevent that. While this rule sucks it is there for good reason. Not all parents are as careful as us about what and where are kids are playing on-line.

Sounds fine until you factor in number of parents that do not play or understand technology. If bad happens who is in the news? Another example of dumb parents or the multi-million dollar gaming company that caused a kid to be hurt or killed?

I think he meant the parent account has to approve of the friendship request.

His point still stands. How many parents buy M rated games for their kids because they don't know any better? It's bizarre as shit how in a span of 10 years (if that) parents went from being turbo strict about kids and video games to giving zero fucks.

They could at least make it so you can b friends with your own kids.

Can you imagine how much trouble it would be for Niantic if they found themselves being involved in Divorce proceedings over which Parent gets custody of the Pokémon Go account? Particularly if one of the parents paid money for things in the child's account, but the other parent had custody?

Oi.

Who the hel would let there 10 year old out like that and if they would the trading feature of this game is the least of their worries.

The data mining of the current version includes the first indications that they are adding support for another new login service that might be addressing the problems with PTC child accounts.
