I already have my own opinion on each of these but I want to see where I stand in respect to the popular opinion. For many of these I already have some. For example, I have 2 venusaur, one that's maxed out for my level with vine whip + solar beam. In essence I'm asking which of these 'rolls' would YOU invest stardust in?

P.S. Do NOT power up that Alakazam. Worst investment I've ever made. You can't consistently fit 4 Psycho Cuts per Zen Headbutt, bc the move isn't as fast as you think. Pokemon with Bite/Water Gun/Dragon Breath are just much better attackers.

Alakazam can knock out a Snorlax faster than a DB/DC Dragonite (or actually any Dragonite) can. I'd guess for a lot of people, getting an Alakazam would be easier than Dragonite due to a single evolution (50 candies) and Abra tends to me a lot more common...
You can't miss many dodges, but for someone who hits hard into Snorlax, it seems like a decent choice assuming you got PC/P (I got shadow ball myself though) and not an army of Dragonites.
Alakazam is not a single evolution, it's 124 candies like Dragonite. However, with a Dragonite you have a 1/2 shot of getting a decent attacking moveset, since DP and HP Dragonites deal 98% the amount of damage a DC does. With Alakazam, it's PC/P or bust, so a 1/6 chance, since a PC/SB and PC/DG only deal 80% the amount of its ideal moveset. So in the end, it's not that much easier to obtain than a good Dragonite, and if you don't have PC/P, it's not worth the investment.

Still, if you find Abra's a lot more common...(I do), then it could be worth the dust to max one with PC/P, or at least I plan to max one if I ever find a very high IV Alakazam with PC/P (I'm over 700k dust now too so dust is available for the right mon).
I agree that I'd only do this for PC/P as well.
I can get 3 full Alakazam evolves now and not even close to 1 Dragonite so yeah, Dragonite is certainly tankier and more useful based on who are in gyms now (Vaps), but like I said, I don't have a Dragonite and Alakazam would only be worth it for PC/P.
the IP poliwrath, both golems, Slowbro and both snorlaxes for defense, Omastar, Venusaur and both lapras for attack. Maybe Hypno if you have too much stardust and are not afraid of spending it. Never spend dust on eeveelutions unless the IVs and movesets are perfect or close too it, Hitmonlee, Aerodactyl and Primeape are not useless, but please don't throw your dust away on them. Most of the people hate machamp, others love it, but everyone hate bullet punch, try to get one with karate chop and cross chop, if you can't submission can do the job, but don't waste dust on a defensive machamp.
Potential Defenders
- Poliwrath (Bubble+Ice Punch) maybe, if you are a high enough level and have extra stardust to spare.
- Machamp if you want something out of the norm to put in gyms.
- Lapras (Ice Shard+Blizzard) can double as an attacker when not in a gym.
- Vaporeon 2
- possibly Snorlax (Zen Headbutt+Body Slam) if you have the candy.
- possibly Snorlax (Zen Headbutt+Hyper Beam). Recheck the IVs. If it has high Atk and Def IVs, and low Stm IV, don't even hesitate.
Potential Attackers
- Lapras (Frost Breath+Ice Beam)
- Vaporeon 3 or Vaporeon 4. Recheck their IVs and power up the one with higher Atk IV. Both eventually if you see a lot of Rhydons.
- Vaporeon 5 would be good also and could double for a defender in a pinch. Lower priority though.
Usable Trainers (leave them where they are)
- Golduck
- Primeape
- Omastar
- Aerodactyl (Bite+Hyper Beam)
If I had to choose one, it would be the 1666 CP Lapras with Frost Breath/Ice Beam. I just powered up a similar beast and it destroys Dragonite. BTW, I just used a PC/P 2400 CP Alakazam against 2600 CP L/BS Snorlax and I was shocked at how fast it won. I was of course dodging the whole time, but it was the first time I realized why Alakazam might be listed near the top of the Gym Attackers Tier List. That being said, there is not a lot of room for error.
