Bad luck with Moltres

Anyone else catch duds so far from the Breakthrough? As someone who wasn't playing when the birds were released I was excited to see they (at least Moltres) return, but my IVs have been 71, 78, and 82. He's still a legendary but this will be a lot of Stardust and Rare candies invested in a potentially disappointing IV mon if i don't improve with the presumed 4 one in the next breakthrough.

I'm having better luck with Moltres than I ever have with Legendary raids. All 3 so far have been ''amazing''. The other rewards have all been 20 regular balls though :(

Mine 1397, 136x, 1383. First was 13/15/15, but I caught two 96s in the summer with 14a and 15a. Take the candy that has come though.

My first one was an 82 but my second was an 89. I need to complete a task today to get my third. My Mew was a 93. So all in all I would say that I have had decent luck with the breakthroughs.

On the other hand I have had lousy luck with Ex-raids. My first time the Mewtwo was somewhere in the 70s range - and it ran away despite my hitting it with 9 golden raspberry great curveballs. My next two were 80 and then 80. I am doing my fourth ex-raid on Sunday - I am hoping that my luck will even out and I will get something good this time.

It's a bit dangerous to invest into Moltres until we know for sure that Charizard doesn't out-DPS it with the upcoming community day moveset so regardless of whether your 4th is a good one, hold on until the CD.
As for what comes after, an 82% Moltres is generally within 3% of the performance of a 100% Moltres, so even if that's the best you end up with, it can be well worth powering up and it's unlikely you would notice the difference to a perfect one if you got to compare them. Moltres also isn't that good of a long-term investment, as Gen 4 has a competing non-legendary and Gen 4 and Gen 5 both have a legendary that'll likely outclass all fire mons when they get released.

tl;dr Don't sweat it. Moltres isn't that necessary because it's not a lasting investment and for shorter term, less-than-perfect IVs will serve you perfectly fine.

Got a 98% this morning, which is the best I've ever caught.

My first 2 were not impressive. My one today was 15/15/12 with FS/O so that was nice.

Of ALL the Pokémon I've caught due to research Breakthroughs, the best two I've caught have been a Moltres (93%, Sta 15) and Mew (89%, Attk 15). Every other catch has been in the 70's, with many being in the low 70's.

So... I can't complain TOO much.

Mine were also crappy, both being in the 70 range IV. Tomorrow I have another chance, so I'll see... my Mew was 84%, but 10A, so that was not very lucky either. My assumption is that egg hatches, raid bosses and research encounters (including breakthrough and Mew) is a flat random from 66% to 100% and we're just being unlucky.

Edit: so no, my 3rd Moltres didn’t bring me any more luck, 73% with 12A IV. Fuck this bird.

When they first came out, the best four I had were 3 87s and an 84. This time around I have gotten 84, 87, 84... Overall not the worst but not great and I was hoping for at least one above 90.

I caught my worst Moltres yet, it merely impressed Blanche. Oh well, still got my 91% KFC, and got 7 candies off this one.
I guess 1 more chance at getting a better Moltres this month, and then ... whatever is next.
