PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Pick Confusion over Psycho Cut, especially for the bulky Cresselia.
  • Only lunatics would use Cresselia, but go with Future Sight if you do.

PVE Overview

Cresselia is a sitting lunar duck for punishment, which is fine in the main series Pokemon games, where it can stall opponents to death. For now, the only targets that it can stall to death in GO are players battling it in a raid.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Psycho Cut or Confusion + Moonblast and Future Sight or Grass Knot*

Psycho Cut (1.5 DPT/4.5 EPT) gives Cress the ability to fire off charged moves far faster, at the cost of making her much less effective when your opponent still has shields available. Confusion (4 DPT/3 EPT) puts less focus on pumping out Cresselia’s costly charged moves, and sports much more powerful STAB damage.

The update to Moonblast following the Go Battle League Season 2 update makes it more necessary due to its cheaper energy and useful coverage. Future Sight hits quite hard with STAB, but 65 energy is a lot to ask for. Aurora Beam is a terrible move and not viable given the updates to Cresselia's movepool. Grass Knot is limited by its accessibility, but is Cresselia's cheapest move and the only one that can be fired back to back. It provides coverage against Water-types and prevents Cresselia from being outright walled by Galarian Stunfisk.

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 3.5 / 5

Cresselia is a mono-Psychic type with extraordinary bulk and a strong but slow moveset. Due to the ubiquitous use of Steel-types in the meta however, Cresselia often has a difficult time in open Great League compared to limited formats. Access to Grass Knot from the Throwback Challenge event gives Cresselia an additional tool against popular Water-types, in addition to costing less energy than its other charge moves, but is not mandatory.

Ultra League: 4.5 / 5

Cresselia's incredible bulk gives it huge advantages in Ultra League, with access to Moonblast to provide some coverage against the popular Giratina. Access to Grass Knot allows it to blast through the ubiquitous Swampert. Cresselia can find itself struggling against Steel types, particularly Registeel, and is best paired with Pokemon like Swampert, Obstagoon, or Talonflame to help remedy this issue. It may also run into the dilemma of choosing between Future Sight or Grass Knot to pair alongside Moonblast.

Master League: 2 / 5

Cresselia’s maximum possible CP is 2857, which puts it at an immediate disadvantage against the top tier threats in Master League. It’s not necessarily a terrible option, just an underwhelming one, and you should probably look elsewhere.
