Overall, your (everything) may not be great in battle!

You must really have bad luck if nearly half your catches are below average.

I have certainly had a mix of meh catches and good ones. Mostly meh though. I imagine it will get better though. Luck can change like that.

I've gotten 7 'simply amazes me' in around 4h of on-and-off play since the event started. Not all have been weather-boosted, either. It's just RNG.

I've only kept one Mon from this event so far, a 41 IV, level 31 Rhyhorn (to be evolved later). That's ok though. I got everything that can be wild caught in Northern US ages ago. Now, I just want candy!

Maybe I have been lucky, but the IVs of my catches for this event have been quite good, perhaps slightly better than usual.

I have also been impressed with the good variety of the Mons spawning ...have caught most types, some rares and many second stage spawns. Missing the Gen3 greatly but this event is good. My only complaint is that "grindable" Mons (pidgey, wheedles, caterpies etc are no where to be seen. If we had them the next "evolution party" would be tremendous.. My neighbourhood is usually lousy with them but few now.

By the time you get to 85k captured mon you stop noticing the bad ones. This event is all about the candy. That said I have several alrady that will be here to stay as they are weather boosted and will end up better than the best I have since I do not invest dust in "trash mon".
