The future of trading...

So, like a lot of players that ground hard in the early days, I have a ton of good mons from gen 1 and 2 that I have been waiting until trading happens to give away to various of people instead of juts outright transferring. However, holding on to mons that don’t get used on the speculation of a game feature being added creates mon storage issues. Not that I am at any critical mass or anything, but I would definitely like to get the dex down to essential staff only.

However, with the advent of raids, events like community days and research rewards essentially giving the house away now, this feels like the tide is going away from trading and more towards giving everyone an opportunity to get things on their own.

I’d like to get this community’s opinions/ prognosis on the future of trading:

1. trading happens relatively soon and we can all start clearing out our dexes of mons that we don’t use but don’t have the heart to transfer

2. Trading happens so far down the line that it’s not worth holding on to things because everyone will have them by then

3. Or it gets shelved because these other features prove to be more popular.

Which one do you all think will happen? Is there an option that I did not think of?

I don’t see it ever happening. There are too many spoofers who could find a way to monetize it and multi-account players who could simply trade all of their great catches into one perfect account. Niantic knows this and obviously has not found a way to stop it. I’m sure it’s not a priority either.

The only thing I keep for its potential trading value is 3 copies of each Hatachu. Everything else in my permanent collection of about 1000 mon is there for me and me only. I guess I decided early on that I don't believe they'll implement trading anytime soon.

I think trading poses a lot of potential problems if introduced to the game, which means that it's going to at the very least take a long time to come or it may not come at all because Niantic can't solve the problems that multiaccounters and spoofers would create if given trading to play around with.

Even the hatchus are proving to have lower value than previously thought because two of them already had second go arounds... seems like it will just be annual cycles...

Which is why I'll stick to my original copies with their catch dates. But really I have been considering culling them down to one each also.

I'm going to go with option 3. In my honest opinion, I believe trading could be potentially detrimental to our playing experiences under the current systems PoGO operates under, especially if Niantic creates trading to function through an online basis rather than through personal and direct interactions with others. Raids, egg hatching, or even the newly installed Research system, all of which are means to acquire Pokémon with desirable IVs, can become obsolete, since you can just hit up the realm of trading and swap any Pokémon with other players in the blink of an eye, and that defeats the core purpose of what PoGO is all about. The possibilities would be limitless for spoofers and those holding multiple accounts.

But, if (and that's a big if) Niantic sets appropriate parameters for trading, such as requiring two people to be physically present at the exact same location in order to even open and use the trading option, then maybe there might be some potential for trading to ameliorate PoGO. Other than that, Niantic putting trading in the game now as it is will just be opening a can of worms with bigger problems to deal with later on.

And what about the spoofers/whales selling pokemon? I'll give you a 98% Kyogre for a pidgey and $20. Don't think Niantic wants that headache. What's the going rate for a 90% Mewtwo?

The answer for that is simple - close to nothing.

With trading (and the expected full blown abuse) only 100% (and probably leveled to 40) of current available mons would have any real value. Perfect legendary mons are so abundant that I would expect them to be fairly low priced. Legendary mons will must certain return at events.

Perfect legacy Omastar would probably be extremely pricey, with perfect legacy Gengar, Dragonite and Snorlax lagging behind. Might even be a fair market for lower IV Omastars.

I remember Niantic patenting a trading system, that involved dropping your Pokemon off at a designated point and it would travel virtually to a destination where someone else would pick it up. It sounded very convoluted and they probably scapped it.
