Nest farming
1. Is it true that nest catches tend to have lower IVs than non-nest catches?
2. Can nest catches also get weather boosted?
3. Is a nest for a base form also more likely to spawn the evolved form (if any)?
Answers
Yes. yes. And No.
Recently, I started farming a very large Geodude nest. Because of the size of the park the amount of mon caught was simply dependent on how long you could stay tjere since the one side will respawn before you finish farming the other.
Spent hours there day after day and never saw a good IV mon. Then we got a day of partly cloudy and I found the goods.
1) For the first six months or so of the game there was some sort of bug that caused nest spawns to have lower IVs than normally spawns. Releated probably to the similar bug that caused spawns with lower pokedex numbers to have lower attack IV, and higher pokedex numbers to have higher attack IV. (Wild spawns of Dratini and Eevee were more likely to have higher IVs.)
That bug has long since been fixed though.
2) I think there are certain spawn points dedicated to pokemon that match the weather, but all pokemon that match the weather no matter how they spawns will get the bonus.
3) I've always thought it would be cool if evolved forms occasionally would spawn at nests, but no one has ever reported anything like that unfortunately.
1. Not true - I've caught a max Abra and a max Shuckle from my local nest in the past. Just like every other spawn, the IVs are randomised. Edit: both of these maxes were from before weather boosting came into the game.
2. Weather boosting does affect nested Pokémon.
3. Evolutions of nesting Pokémon do not spawn in that nest, unless they just happen to spawn there anyway.
1) Anecdotally, yes. The few times I've actually had a chance to camp out at a Nest when it's not Weather Boosted, it's been 4 (or 7) candies every time I caught a Pokémon and immediately transferred. But where I live there are very few nests easily accessible, and I'm not doing research so unless the nest is full of Pokémon I want, I'm not going to camp out for any length of time. So what I'm saying is that the answer should be "I don't know."
2) Yes. There's an Onix nest in a place I can get to, and I've been camping there a couple of times a day when it's weather boosted and I've actually caught 3 90IV+ Onix in the last 3 days. (2 were level 10 or lower, true, but still caught them)
3) Never seen evidence of that - I've seen more evidence of Weather Boosting bringing out more evolved form (particularly among the XP Pokémon like Weedle and Pidgey), but not because of nests.
I spend a lot of time in nests and IMHO: yes, the IVs tend to be lower than catching individual spawns (which are notably better when weather boosted of course) BUT I still get some very high IV nest Mons but seems a lower % of catches. I think the size (ie Stardust) of nest Mons is NOT lower than individual spawns but IV yes ... often I have caught 20-30 at a nest and none were notably high IVs ... individuals seem much more likely to be high IV than this.
Q2: Nests benefit for sure from weather. Q3: I see NO evidence that stage 2 and or stage 3 of a species are more likely to spawn at a nest (if that was the question).
