My Sceptile Dilemma

I've got this baked bad boy, L34, 96IV (13/15/15). He initially had FC/Earthquake, decided that that was worth a CTM since Eq sucks, and I got Aerial Ace. Which also isn't great. I don't want to blow more CTMs (don't have many anyway) and run the risk of reverting to Eq while trying to get Leaf Blade.

Are there any niche uses for a Bug/Flying Sceptile, aside from being a grass-type grass counter? His use with this particular moveset is diminished further by the lack of grass-type raid bosses.

Unless you got a 100% one AND you're swimming in charge TMs AND you love Sceptile, he is not worth charge TMs. They nest, so spend some time on a clear day and you can get some nice weather boosted ones. I collected over 1,200 candies during the event when the gen 3 starters were everywhere and evolved all the ones above level 30 with at least 80% IV and only got Leaf Blade on 2 or 3 of them.

There is no use for Aerial Ace on Sceptile. He's less durable than Exeggutor and has a lower attack stat than him also. Aerial Ace isn't good anyway and it's only good on Rayquaza thanks to his 284 attack stat. Leaf Blade is literally Sceptile's only saving grace, so without it, he's a prime candidate for the professor's candy grinder.

I have three Sceptiles 2379 to 2302...I switched them all to LB. I was excited about new things to catch, here treeckos and seedots were more common than pidgeys/rats ever were...justified the CTMs bc a good Kyogre counter...didn’t use them that much bc so many electrics and grasses. Not really necessary IMO, but you can still make it better at some future point

Thank you both for your replies! I'll resist the temptation to try for LB, and perhaps just use him in an offensive gym-lineup every now and then to test his practical performance.

You could use him in a Celebi raid or as a gym defender against Machamp

I found a 100 percent lvl 34 with FC/EQ and wasted 3 CTMs getting Leaf Blade. I don't regret it one bit because I've used him against Kyogre, Groudon, Azumarill, Piloswine, and Dewgong and he does great. He's also fun to use to take out weakened gyms because of how fast he can fire off Leaf Blade

Agree with Solid_Snake. I'm sorry to say that both AA and EQ on Sceptile are useless. I used three TMs on mine to get LB as well and don't regret it. It's a super fun attacker, and my grass go-to for nearly every occasion. My guess is they included AA to match his flavor text, which talks about him jumping through and out of trees to catch prey.

After 23 Venusaur without getting the moves I want, I no longer suffer endless chains of disappointing evolutions: I get a good specimen, I evolve it, and then I make it how I want it. End of story.

I'm just glad I don't have to use Exeggcutor anymore. Solar Beam hits like a truck but hes so slow he barely gets one off when I need it the most. I actually prefer Seed Bomb on Eggy or even Petal Blizzard on Venusaur. Sceptile made soloing Omastar so much easier for the brief time he was still around

Stop getting lazy and charge tm it. It's about as easy to tm as salamence. I've evolved 4 sceptiles, 3 got leaf blade.

Notice how you've made no attempt to answer the question I posed, nor is your advice useful in any way, shape, or form.

I wish I could CTM Mr-ex777, from Yawn/Anus to Yawn/Decent Human.

I'm going to answer you now; No use for aerial ace sceptile.

Sceptile at this level deserves to learn Leaf Blade, aside from that I guess you already have grass counters like Scizor or flareon.

I have a 98% maxed Sceptile 15/15/14, with FC/LB. Love it for sweeping gym trash. I doubt there is anything faster.
