Aside from the fact that dogs have a habit of sniffing backsides, is there a reason why the banner for 'Call to Action: Granbull' has a Poochyena with his face lodged between Granbull's cheeks?

The boring realistic answer is they started with a banner for the Chinese New Year Dog event with Poochyena on it, and added a picture of Granbull for their Granbull article without paying attention to the placement of the picture that was already there.
