power up my first Mewtwo??
I finally got my first Mewtwo today guys... it was epic and super fun, now the question is, is it worth powering up? and how high?
my Mewtwo has a CP of 2240 and has 87% IVs, 14 attack, 12 defense, and 13 hp
it knows Psycho Cut and Hyper Beam (which is one of the worst moveset combinations I am told) but I am happy to use TMs to alter that, I typically power my amazing pokemon up to level 30 or 33, typically no higher than that, what does everyone think?

So, you are asking if it is worth powering up your one and only Mewtwo?
No, you should leave it at level 20, so that it will have less CP decay if legendaries are ever allowed to defend gyms. Or in case prestiging returns to the game. Or you could transfer it to the professor, thus receiving a rare and valuable Mewtwo candy.
Congratulations on getting a good Mewtwo. If you want to tell us about it, great; there is no need to ask a ridiculous fake question.
It is obviously an honest question. When reading this Q&A more and more players start to think that anything below ~90% IVs is bad because the ultra hard core players play by this rule. If I would have been playing by this rule, I would never have been able to solo a C/FB Alakazam.
I can understand that someone might asks this because they honestly dont know. A 14-12-13 Mewtwo is a very very good one and I would for shure bring it to level 30
I don't think its a ridiculous fake question Scooter. If it was 96% + then I might agree. Investing in an 87% or not can be a real quandry for many players, especially those whose resources are limited and want to be pretty sure that they won't regret their investment in the future. Whether you think it's rational or not is irrelevant to the fact that it was a legitimate question from a player who sought assistance in making his decision.
I remember at the very beginning of M2 I said here that I would max out a 10 10 10 because it's M2. Back then I just had no idea of how many M2 we were going to get. At 1st I thought only one per account because of this special and very rare EX raid thing. It also made sense if you have seen the movie. M2 is a scientific experiment, a clone it's supposed to be unique... Anyway then I saw people getting a second one. Now we see people with 7 M2... So who knows ? For all we know M2 will still be here 2 years from now and some people will have 30 M2.
So now my thinking is I'm going to wait and see until M2 is gone to take power up or maxing out decisions (unless I get maybe a 96+) and that is to me the only answer that makes sense. Isn't it what we all do here ? If someone today creates a thread asking : I caught a 87 rayquaza should I power it up ? What is going to be 90% of answers ? No it doesnt make sense there is still 1 month left to catch a better one. Just because we have no idea when will be the last EX raid wave shouldn't change this thinking process.
"I caught a 87 rayquaza should I power it up ? What is going to be 90% of answers ? No it doesnt make sense there is still 1 month left to catch a better one."
This argument works precisely because we know what to expect. Rayquaza will be here until March 16th (???), and will appear regularly as a legendary raid. So it makes sense to either wait for a really good one, or wait until the end and power up the best ones you have. Don't get a good one? Do more raids before time's up.
Mewtwo appears scarcely as an EX raid, and has for some time. But we never know when someone will do an EX raid and get Mew or Celebi, or EX raids will stop happening. We don't have complete information, and as such we have to act based on best guesses and other information. The uncertain end and the future for Mewtwo completely changes the thinking process.
Personally, I powered up my first Mewtwo to level 30 right away, and then to level 33 when I got my second EX pass. 14/10/14 (ads), got it with Hyperbeam, first CTM got Shadow Ball. Totally worth it.
Second one again got Hyperbeam, CTM to Psychic, going on my Machamp team. 12/15/11 (ads), and will power it up to 30.
Now, if three months from now, Mewtwo becomes a normal legendary raid, and I do a few and get a perfect, I'll power that up too. Mewtwo is very powerful, and the rare candy and dust I spent on the first two can be replaced. The use I've gotten from them justifies the expenditure, and any future use is an extra bonus.
Groudon and Kyogre are ridiculously powerful. Mewtwo and Rayquaza are just a hair below that. Those four pokemon are way more powerful than anything else out there right now. There's zero reason not to power them up, and the opportunity cost lost for not doing so is very high.
thanks for all of the advice guys, this was absolutely an honest question, I’m a free-to-play kind of player, nearly level 37, without spending a cent on the game, and in general my resources are limited, so deciding to take a level 20 pokemon to level 33 is a huge stardust commitment, I understand that Mewtwo is incredible offensively, but I have also known people to have more than one EX Raid Pass opportunity, I will be powering my 87% up, thanks for all of the sincere guidance!
