I have tried 7 times to change my Mewto Charge attack to Shadow Ball and failed so far. Is Focus Blast a good second choice? Has anyone succeeded in getting Shadown Ball with a TM?

Are you seriously asking, if anyone succeeded in TMing to shadow ball - obviously, yes

Given seven failures, it did seem a legit question. Obviously it is worth it to keep trying.

Did it after using 4 TMs last weekend. And yes, Focus Blast is a good charge move; however it will make your Mewtwo more of a specialist than a generalist when compared with SB.

I tried to TM Focus Blast into SB and got Psychic. I don't mind Psychic too much since it's got STAB and fires off quickly. I'm just gonna wait and try to catch a SB Mewtwo without wasting anymore CTMs

I actually got it on my first try. Felt lucky since I wasted 7 ctm trying to give dazzling gleam to a Gardevoir.

There's absolutely no reason for TM's to be so random other than sadism on Niantics part. They should either let you pick the move you want or at least cycle through all of the moves before repeating.

My record is 14 Charge TMs needed to get Hydro Pump on a Gyarados!

What Niantic should implement is this: If you use two charge TM's in succession, it should NEVER cycle between the same two moves, but the second time go to the third alternative. Of course with Mewtwo there are more than 3 alternatives, so it still might cycle between 3 alternatives. But for the majority of mons with 3 charge attacks, this would prevent massive drain of Charge TMs just to get one move.

That would make it too easy, and everyone would have the best moveset on every decent pokemon. No diversity, no thanks.

And believe me, I've been frustrated a number of times myself trying to get a move I wanted. Off the top of my head, it took me six CTM's to get SB on a legacy SC/DP Gengar, and I spent seven CTM's and still failed to get DP on a legacy KC/CC Machamp before I gave up. I've spent four or five a few other times. And then sometimes, I got the move I wanted on the first try.

Focus Blast is a gym generalist against all the abundant normal types with psychic and fairy moves.
Shadow Ball is a raid generalist against anything but normal type.

This is exactly how I use my two Mewtwos. Sadly, the removal of Alakazam and Gengar somewhat devalued the SB one.

I love my maxed Focus Blast Mewtwo. It's my number one attacker into gyms, with a maxed Machamp as backup.

Same here. I use my FB Mewtwo far more than the one with SB. Gyms in my area are always packed with normal types.

This is a good example of how ridiculous the distribution and mechanics of Charge TMs currently are. Most of us get maybe 1 Charge TM for every 4 or 5 Fast TMs, yet it only takes 1 Fast TM to get the desired fast move, but I've read horror stories of players burning through 14 Charge TMs attempting to get Outrage on a Dragonite and I personally blew through 8 Charge TMs before I finally got Dazzling Gleam on a Gardevoir.

With Mewtwo having 4 different Charge moves, it must be a nightmare.

Ugh. It took 20 of mine. It was the only but of had luck I've ever had with TMing. To add insult to injury I started with focus blast and after a few uses I would have much preferred the original move.
