Magneton - better than Electabuzz and Raichu?

Just going off the Gamepress rating of 8/10 compared with Electabuzz (7.5) and Raichu (6) - was wondering whether people's experiences matched up with this? My Jolteon has discharge so my only really good electric is Electabuzz. I guess Magneton's problem comes with Gyarados resisting steel. However, looks like Magneton has few vulnerabilities with his electric/steel typing, so maybe I will power mine up a bit after all (only 912 CP at present).

I've noticed a few days ago that someone mentioned magneton for prestige due to its resistance. I went to its page and yes, magneton has a lot of resistances. I guess that is one of the reasons he has better marks.

I tried a lot to prestige with him but jolteon is way better. Didnt try with raichu or electabuzz much but i think they are better thanks to better attacks.
Magneton deals with damages quite well but having no good charged move hurts a lot

Lack of HP means you need to dodge but he copes well against a lot of basic moves. I've taken down Dragonites 1000cp higher just dodging charge moves...
A glass cannon but a handy Poke at times.

Also it may be good at countering lapras resistance wise, stat wise not so much. Haven't been able to try it myself.

It's really too bad about its stam, has a ton of potential.

It does okay against Lapras, providing you dodge the charge moves - I use them for prestiging Lapras, but I wouldn't use it over Jolteon as a main attacker.

Have you tried a level 30ish? I'm semi interested now after thinking about it. Not a fan of eveelutions, been using random raichus and high cp/low iv jolteons for electric.

I think 25 is about my highest - I keep meaning to power up further (Magnemites are as common as anything round here) but there's always another priority...

It's the charge moves.

The extra resistence that Steel Dual Type brings against many fighters isn't worth using the Weaker Charge Moves (Flash Cannon/Discharge are both weaker than Thunderbolt/Thunder)

I think you may be looking at it that way because it has access to Spark, which is the far better although rarer option for quick moves on Electric types compared to Thunder Shock (which is absolutely terrible at 11 DPS). Being the only steel type right now it does have a load of resistances but they're more viable on attack since it's crippled by ground and fire which are very common attackers too. Charge move wise Raichu, Electabuzz and Jolteon can have access to Thunder which is the hardest hitting electric charge move (with TBolt being more versatile in dodging for Raichu and Jolteon too) but Magneton gets the worst only option with Discharge. So overall Magneton is nice, but still in need of a better charge move pool.

A Jolteon with Discharge is a better electric attacker than any of the lot, just because he's got that many more stats than the others.

Magneton isn't brilliant as your primary Electric attacker because his only Electric Charge Move is Discharge. However he has other niches that he can do that Jolteon and others struggle with.

Notably... he resists literally everything that Lapras, and Dragonite can throw at him and almost everything Snorlax can throw at him.

And now I kind of want to buddy with and level up my 1242 TS/FC Magneton. Should probably keep him where he is for Prestiging though.

I actually do use my Jolteon and it isn't useless so I'll persist - looking forward to getting a better one without Discharge though.

I was mainly surprised Magneton was rated higher than Electabuzz and that Raichu was so low. But I guess it's explainable.

And Ffirebrandd - my Magneton has the same moveset as yours but lower CP (and presumably level) - think I might keep him as he is for prestiging as you say, but I was tempted to power him up a bit! If my Raichu has a decent moveset and low CP (I'm 1 Pikachu away from evolving him, shouldn't take long with the current event!) then I might power up Maggy a bit and see how he fares against Lapras.

Thanks all!

From my experience, Magneton's HP is just too low and his movesets aren't strong enough. If I miss any dodges or try to use a charge move, then I lose a big chunk of life. His types line up nicely against Lapras, but he just can't last long enough.

My main electric mons are Raichu. I have quite a selection from CP1100-1600 that could easily take Gyarados at any CP with ease. Sometimes I use my 100%IV Electabuzz just for the sake of being 100%IV but still prefer Raichu.

I also have lots of Magneton, but I don't really a fan of them (same with Jolteon).
