To level or not to level? - Alakazam

Hey all! So ... I have a 100% perfect IV Alakazam but he doesn't have the most desirable moves.

Confusion & Shadow Ball

Now, I know this move-set will be best suited for a defence position but should I hold off and try and find a decent IV on a Abra/Kadabra or shall I level this one up to the max and drop him in gyms?

Do you have mewtwo? If you do, Don't then. But i otherwise will accept this moveset. If you are persistent, try charge tming it. I only charge TM if i see focus blast.

By the way i today caught a level 33, 95.6% Abra that turned out to have focus blast after i evolved it....

people feel justified giving thumbs down but cannot be bothered to say why?

I don't have Mewtwo unfortunately :( haha. So, one option is to see it through and hope one day I can TM Charge the Shadow Ball? - That said do you think it's current build would offer as a decent defender pokemon?

I rather face a Snorlax than an Alakazam, because it forces me to swap and I'm quite stubborn

100% Zam ?
I power up mine until it need 5000 stardust, and use it in raid. And power it up step by step (6000,7000, 8000, ...) if need to, depends on what role it takes
It is almost max out eventually. PC/ShBall, i have another (iv88 atk 15) dedicated as full psychic moveset.
I personally dont use focus blast one..
Dont worry too much about movesets, TM will come eventually if you are doing raids.
I never put my 100% Zam in gym, it is way more usefull as an attacker..
And in raids depending on the moveset, it is a beast against solo Machamp and Gengar raid and good enough for Alakazam raid

I would definitely power it up and use charge TMs until you get futuresight. Sure he’s no mewtwo but those are very hard to come by and it costs rare candy. He’s a great attacker for machamp solos and gengar as someone mentioned. Plus he’s perfect!

Alakazam is an attacker, not a defender, so don’t find a moveset to fill a defenders role.

Alakazam has the top base attack of non-legendary Psychic pokemon in all generations. I think a perfect one is certainly worth maxing if you don't have multiple Mewtwo, and even if you do you might want to someday do raid challenges that omit legendaries or prohibit multiples of the same pokemon.

That said there's no need to hurry with powering it up if your Machamp team doesn't need an upgrade. Just keep it and pour some stardust into it every now and then when you have excess.

Don’t wait for a move shuffle because he had a great move pool right now. Get futuresight and ur choice of a quick move - both are good and cater to diff styles of play.
