Magikarp evolving question

Hi guys,

After yesterday news, we all are dissapointed... that's why maybe Niantic is looking for new engineers to develop the game as we wanted! https://nianticlabs.com/jobs/

That was just an introduction that has nothing to do with my question:

Wich Makigarp to evolve?

CP 165, 32 HP, IV 75% lvl 29 (HP 5, ATK 15, DEF 15) CP 160, 37 HP, IV 88% lvl 27(HP 14, ATK 13, DEF 15) CP 159, 35 HP, IV 72% lvl 29(HP 9, ATK 12, DEF 14)

My first Gyarados came with B + Twister, but i'm hoping this time for the second one to get a better moveset.

I hope you guys can help me to make a decission.

If it is easy for you to get Magikarp I would probably wait a bit more and try to get one with 90% + IV, I have 3 gyarados now, 1 with 100% with Hydro Pump and the rest with Dragon Pulse but all of them with 90%+ IV. If you can't wait I would do the 88% one, once evolved probably will have around 50-60CP less than the first one, thats 2 powerups, it totally worth it having one with 13% more IV

Thanks for your answer, it's a 30 minutes drive to be next to a river to capture some Magikarp, I'll take into account your advice.

Your IV's seem wrong, number 2 is more like 93% and by far the best there.

I had the same problem than you. I wanted to evolve one of my magikarps (they were much worse than yours) during the double exp event, but finally i waited for one better. The next day after the event ending, I found a 15-15-15 magikarp (first after 4 months with more than 90% iv). Now he's a perfect Gyarados with bite and hydropumb. I love him.

PD: your second Magikarp is a good choice, it's 42/45, 93% perfect, and level 27 is ok (my perfect monster was only 20 xD)

The difference between your 93% iv magikarp and a 100% at level 40 is only 29 CP

I would pick number 2. And if you gave the IV's correctly it is indeed 93%

Number 2 looks pretty good. Go with that one! :)

A good rule is the more difficult it is to get enough candy to fully evolve, the more important IV is. The easier it is to get the candy, the more important CP.
Even if you live by water, getting 400 magikarp candies is an undertaking. Go with the highest IV every time for magikarp.
