Why isn't there an option to skip the egg hatching animation?

What I'm saying is... there should be option to skip the egg hatching animation.

There used to be an option to skip the animation by swiping with two fingers but that has been taken away for goodness knows what reason.

I've always found the inescapable animation mildly annoying but tolerable. Then today I missed the opportunity to slot myself in a gym because an egg decided to hatch the split second before I tapped the button and by the time it finished hatching, the remaining two slots were taken.

Yeah, I know. Tough luck, no big deal, etc, and I may not have gotten the slot in any event. But the fact remains that I was handicapped by a completely useless feature. It's not an exposition scene and after hatching 700+ eggs, I don't feel any sense of wonder at the process any more, especially not when there's a Gulpin at the end of it.
