IV obsession and reality

Now I'm getting much picky regarding IV. Basically, I only max out 100%, 98% and 96% useful and meta-relevant mons.

In reality, there are a few occasions that a high level 90%+ are materially inferior to 95%+ ones.

Am I correct?

What is your IV criteria? why?

96+ for me as well if you can still capture it. I don't really care how the 96 is made out of (even 13/15/15)

If 91+, an exception can be made if it has 15 attack and has some meaningful purpose in the game/special meaning to me. E.g. My Rhydon is 91 IV but I plan to max it out as it is my oldest pokemon now, and has 15 attack.

not that i have a superb team but if i have a 15 attack 'mon less than 10% IV's worse than my top non-15atk catch once a legendary boss finishes that's the one that gets powered up. same with most things in general but mainly legendaries - i'd rather hit raid breakpoints faster to save candy/dust than be slightly more potion efficient.

You are correct, there are few occasions. Those occasions might really matter to you if you come up just fractions of a second short on a solo/duo raid.

I'm very picky about attack, and pretty much fine with any other stats on raid caught pokemon.

On wild caught pokemon, I get very picky and would only consider 96% or better. Even 96 better start off close to a breakpoint.

I agree with he OP. 96% IV pokemon with a attack level 15 are the only must to use stardust on if you're trying to be smart with it. I levels up a few 91s and 93s, but those were the best legendaries I was able to land sometimes.

I know this is an abnormal opinion/criteria for this site, but I have a very wide range of IV's I am willing to power up. It really depends on several factors (species, meta relevance, level, personal sentiment, etc). Basically, if powering it up will help my team be better, and it seems like the best option I am going to get for a while, then I will go for it. Take into account IV versus level (if one has a little lower IV's but substantially higher level then depending on the rarity of the candies/dust cost, I'll go with the higher level). Sometimes that means I am powering up something as low as 87-89% (Tyrannitar), but for some species (Gyarados for example) I wouldn't bother investing stardust into anything lower than 100% (already have 3 100's, 2 98's, and a 96).

For me, 91.1% or above. Even 11/15/15.

It matters 95% for bragging rights. 5% for combat purposes.

The fact you guys obsess over IVs show you're trying to find strategy in a game that isn't there. You're wishing that strategy was there, but it's not. There is no strategy in a game where any Noob can catch 20 Groudons.

You're coming skill and strategy. There's no skill in the game, but there is strategy, ie picking the strongest Pokemon, picking the correcting type, etc...

I powered up 89% raikou with 15 att, because that's the best I have....

100% or else transfer. 100% only is the new goal now

In raids, 82% IV or above, else transfer, so I have 0 Raikous.

Normal Pokémon, if acceptable, 51% or above.

Only good for bragging rights. 70% or above = OK.

I max out anything that:
is part of the top & has above 80% IV & has 15 attack. An exception to that rule is my 15 HP Kingler because I can't find a good 15 Atk one.
But if i find anything that is above the prior IV% for any mon and has 15 atk, I will focus on upgrading that one.

This will probably break your heart.

They aren’t meh. They’re terrific but don’t meet the exacting standards some here are setting. All are perfectly useful and have probably served their owner well.
