Dragonite vs Salamence

Well, we are at the tail end of gen 2 with gen 3 just round the corner. Everyone probably has a squad of ttars for mewtwo and ho oh but having got a 93% ho oh and given up on trying for an ex raid pass i can't wait for salamence

I however find it hard to believe this beast will supplant dragonite even with the additional attack. His defensive stats are lower and he doesnot seem as potion efficient does he? Overall would he take over as the premier generalist or will dragonite continue.

I beliebe the real issue is niantic hasn't been able to translate the power of sweepers with high speed stats and attack stats from the main series to this game hence pokemon like alakazam, gengar or salamence/sceptile will not be able to perform as well as they could be, DPS wise. What do you guys think?

Yeah the way speed is handled is bad. It just adds a bit to a mons attack.

Someone suggested that the cooldown on moves be variable, depending on the speed of the mon. So the cooldown of Psycho Cut on a Zam would be reduced more than on other mons because of his high speed, making him a dodging machine.

Would be awesome.

Research on Silph was done on this topic. Obviously we can't be exactly sure of movesets but the author ran it with different move combinations for Salamance and all current and legacy movesets for dragonite. Essentially dragonite is slightly behind in dps with similar moves.

Ahh pardon me i must have missed it on silph. Hmm yeah, would like to see em compared to metagross too. Hopefully metagross gets good movesets heh

I suspect that they will make Salamence available through raids, but won't do the same with Dragonite. A strong Dragonite (or better yet a group of them) will be a badge of honor for the players who are/were willing to grind and grind to get a good mon (or even, like I did with one, get lucky and stumble on a level 30 with decent IVs in the wild). Those who want to get it quickly, without work (the instant gratification crowd) will get Salamance, who has similar performance and typing (yes, there are differences, but the differences between Salamance and Dragonite are small compared to the differences between Dragonite and Cloyster, Shuckle, or Groudon.)

That's just my uneducated guess. Gen3 could see Dragonite raids. But I think we'll see Bagon as a tier 1 or tier 2 mon, or Shellgon as a tier 2 or 3, requiring people to use a lot of passes to get a Salamance. Cha-ching, Niantic.

On the other hand, Dratini as a tier 2 raid boss would rock - great way to get that little extra candy to Power up Dragonite when going up a level. But I don't think Niantic will go that route.

And me, I can't wait for Metagross. The perfect pokemon to take down Machamp. Resists steel, fighting, and has psychic attacks (I hope) that Machamp is weak to. And Gardevoir, so we finally have a Fairy pokemon that is a player. Groudon and Kyogre to displace Rhydon and Vaporeon as the best ground and water mon. Psychic dragons also resisting fighting (doubly, I'd expect). And then there's Rayquaza, Dragonite on steroids. Will probably be in the rarity class of Mewtwo - I could see Rayquaza being the new EX raid mon pretty soon. And finally, Gyarados with Waterfall? That would be cool.

Lots to be excited about, especially the expected special on Pokemon storage upgrades. Need that badly.
