If Gyarados gets a water quick move..

What changes to the meta do you think will happen?

I think a few things:

1. Ninetales may finally be soloed for lower leveled players
2. Vaporeon may be outclassed, not as a tank, but definitely outclassed as a dps machine
3. Definitively the supreme counter of Golem and Rhydon raids. Nothing else comes close.
4. Electric types rise in relevance to take them down in a gym should the need arise (but most do not tackle gyarados using golem anyway, so not much changed here)

Any more ideas?

3) Gyarados resists ground but is weak to rock, so sometimes but not always better against Golem and Rhydon.

It's still superior to vaporeon if you consider that mud slap damage is cut in half for gyarados - the only situation that I think vape will perform better is rock smash and stone edge, so I would give all other moveset to gyarados.

EDIT Sorry I forgot Rhydon doesn't exist anymore. This point is moot.

I forgot about golem. Yes, you are correct that it's probably a bad idea for double rock golem, and I forgot Rhydon doesn't exist anymore.

Fast and charge TMs will suddenly have a purpose again

Defo fast TMs to switch the quick moves... But I assume most people already keep their garys as HP?

It seems crazy, but out of 15 evolutions I never got Hydropump yet. Never bothered to use a charge tm, but I will once they add a water quick move.

HP becomes legacy in gen 3 and Waterfall is introduced in the games. You might lose your chance with this strategy.

5. Magikarp will become 'buddy' of choice for many

I think there's alot of people sitting on hundreds or thousands of magikarp candy waiting for a shiny

No doubt...but there are just as many if not more that find it rare to see Magikarp.
There is a reason it was re-added to the raid rotation.

I live in the desert and the only reason i have 2 Garys was from hatching eggs. Now that is gone Magicarp candy is rarer than Dratinie.

What a difference biome makes. I can evolve about one Gyarados per month just from Magikarps that spawn at my house (my pokedex currently says seen 1636, caught 1573).

Same here, and I'm not even near a big body of water. Just underground streams, local creeks, and whatnot.

All I find as regularly as that is Geodudes and Snubull
Granbull dex count at 180/203.

Them crazy biomes.
