How enjoyable is this event to you? What's next?
I enjoyed this event very much because of the double XP and stardust. I just achieved L40. I guess quite a number of players achieve this milestone as a result of this event.
I'm also curious what's next for recent L40 players.

There needs to be Individual Challenges for the high level players. Like they could have put an individual challenge for the travel event to catch a certain amount of pokemon before the event ends and when you do Lt Surge will challenge you to a duel 6 mons vs your 6 mons and if you win you receive a medal that says you defeated lt surge during the travel event and your avatar could wear his combat boots and camo pants. They should also have Tournaments once a month player vs player and when you win a certain amount of battles you'll receive a reward. The Global challenges are terrible boring for high level trainers because the only individual challenge you have so far is to level up or catch and power up mons and what happens when you've completed both?
I achieved level 40 during this event and didn't open the app anymore. I may call it quits personally, but you can set personal goals if you still enjoy the game.
Stardust always comes in handy. Optimize your attacking team, optimize your defending team, optimize the amount of golden gym badges or trainer badges.. in short, plenty of goals you can set yourself.
I really only care about the double stardust. I'm level 39 (halfway to level 40), and I didn't use a single lucky egg during this event. I just don't see any big benefit to getting to level 40 quickly, so I'd rather save my hard-earned gym coins for the occasional raid pass and incubator. I was tempted to buy one of the special packages this time, in which case I would have had some lucky eggs to use, but it wasn't a good enough deal on the stuff I care about (incubators and raid passes). I currently have over 5,000 coins, all from gym rewards, and I'm still very stingy about spending them.
I had some aggressive daily stardust goals, though, and powered up some useful mons. I brought a 93% S/FP Houndoom from level 22 to 36 (hitting a breakpoint against Alakazam raid boss), and my 100% C/P Exeggutor became my first level 40 pokemon. There were a few others, such as adding a few levels to my 93% DT/H Dragonite, and bringing my best Entei to level 30 as a possible attacker for a 2-person Victreebel raid attempt. While powering all these mons up, I also was able to increase my total of saved stardust (now 300K) for future projects.
While I will miss the double stardust, I will not miss the compulsion to catch every single Spinarak and Natu and Wooper that I see. The only mons I still mostly ignored during this event were Murkrows and Sneasels.
I've enjoyed this event, though I sort of feel that it's a bit too much. Double XP as well as double Stardust. Add 6h lures and freaking Farfetch'd. I mean, that is very generous.
But I'm not complaining. It has allowed me to reach 3.5 million stardust (which was a goal for me) and brought me about 700k away from lvl 38 (another goal I have, especially since they fixed the power up-thing).
I really like that we had to work for the rewards. Sure, we really didn't have much trouble reaching the limits for each reward, but it was still a nice thing. Maybe do another one like this in the future, but more difficult?
Oh, and preferable in the summertime, because as nice as it is to get double xp and dust, doing it in cold, windy and wet weather isn't fun. Sweden has given me snow, rain, mud, freezing temperatures and winds that can knock you over.
Not fun.
What’s next is more of the same. More delays in legitimate improvement of the game, more updates that fix trivial things and create more problems. Movements tend to decay when they lose substance. This event was total trash. Just a way for lower player scum to become a nuisance by leveling up quickly and now they are genuine, non cheating threats. We will HAVE to deal with them.
So Niantic should just create an event just for you and all those level 38-40 trainers? So new players and casual players cannot level up quickly while having fun with these events? Don't be such an @$$.. This game is for everyone of all ages and not only for hardcore gamers.. If you hated Niantic and this event so much, quit playing!
Congrats to you and everyone else who achieved 40! Be proud.
I have enjoyed the event a lot, but will be somewhat relieved to get a break when it's over ;)
- Getting close to 39 and tons of much needed dust
- Helped less experienced players with a raid and got a Discord invite for the city, which led to...
- My first (and second, so far) legendary raids and my first legendary, Suicune... as well as meeting more people who love the game as much as I do
- My second wild D'nite (after a year!) and other good catches
- a few Farfetch'd in my collection
No complaints here. I think Niantic is really trying (finally high level raids where most people are playing can't just be RNG).
Happy hunting, there is still time :)
