Are IVs good or bad for pokemon go?

I prayed they wouldn't be in this game. Now a 88.9% is labeled bad, that's obviously ridiculous. Edit... 2/3 of posts on this site revolve around IVs.

I think ivs are fine but they are generally WAY overvalued. In my discord group when talking about raid counters, I'm frequently asked what's good. After I answer, the typical response is something like "oh I have a 96, 93, and a couple 89s. I'm good." I try to resist being "that guy" by following up by asking about their level. I usually just assume they're all at 20-25 and I'll get my damage bonus.

I'm saying that my 2500 cp exeggutor with 67% ivs would knock the socks off a 100% level 20 exeggutor. My 89% Espeon at level 32.5 is a ton better than my raid mates' 98% Espeons at level 22-25. IVs matter but not as much as movesets and level.

Obviously they're good, if your Dragonite can be powered up by any random dragonite a scrub can catch, then it's not worth anything is it.

Ultimately its not going to be game breaking, but obviously you'll get shafted like I do when I powered a 91 Moltres only to catch a 98 one.

Well Dragonite or its lower evolutions can be found by trackers...

Everything above or equal to 82% is good in my opinion, hatches and raid catches.

Everything above 50% is good, wild catches.

I agree. Using the damage formula and CP multiplier by level, one only raises the relative ATT/DEF/STA by 2-3% as you go from an IV of 10 to 15. That means that one quick move's worth of extra damage every 40 of such moves. But also 3 seconds on a 100 second battle - so it matters more in raids than anywhere else.

On the other hand, if these 3% matter to someone, then better level up a 15 IV to level 30 than a 10 IV to level 34 to get the same ATT/DEF/STA.

Pretty much like everyone else said the difference is minimal. For some players they desire the enjoyment of catching perfects. That's pretty much why I play at this point but When it comes to utility 80/90/100 make them all it's serviceable Pokémon. Especially 15 Atk

I don't allow myself to be disappointed if it's 89IV or above.
I can be happy about lower IVs with high atk or a desirable moveset, depending on the mon.
I particularly like my 72IV Scizor as a bug attacker.

I created an account just to respond to this. Ya better feel special man.

My thing is this.. just like in... Adult areas.. it's the skill not the size... Some Mon just work it better.

I personally use the IV calculator... And generally a top Vs 2nd tier Pokémon carry like a 300 co difference at level 40...

Realistically reaching 40 might be years away for many of us.

But to the point... The way I look at it.. say we're level 30... And you're trying to raise a Mon to say 1800 CP... It'll take a few more level ups to accomplish with the weaker Mon... Aka more stardust...

Stardust is gold... There's no lucky stardust egg far as I know... And I'm a grinder.. I heard there was a cheat but... I like to discover things on my own.

At the end of the day... My 44/45 gengar disappoints me compared with my 80 kingler.. who was my first real big Mon..and has been faithfully with me through think and thin...

I save the wonders tho... For when trading comes around

Ivs are good since they are what seperates the grinding players from casual players. With time your probability to get a high IV mon will be higher. The problem I see is the raidsystem...why go out and catch/grind the ultra-rare larvitar if you can go out with two friends around the corner to get a good Tyranitar at lvl 20 for free? You would have to go out and catch 20-30 larvitar and then you probably wouldn't have one with better IVs or it would be lvl2...that just doesn't make sense. Hatching is useless too since you still have to evolve with candy...raiding pretty much eliminates every other aspect of the game and because you can easily make 3 raids in one hour every second day it is clear that people want to have 96% IVs because in every other case you could easily get a better one the next day...niantic just failed with this system and ruined the game by putting the best mons as raid-bosses.

Rare = coveted!!

With everything getting easier in Pokemon go, ppl need something rare to hunt for. That's why they're hunting for high IVs pokemons.

Only too bad others cannot see your IV. You may have a 100% IV in a gym, your ultimate pride and nobody else would notice.

I guess for me, finding exact IVs is useful when I only have space to keep a few mons of the same spiece. Otherwise, like many others said, above 82% would be good enough as the difference are minimal.
