Stardust Management
Before the gym rework, I poorly managed the usage of my stardust. Anytime I even got to 10k stardust, or just enough stardust to power up a Pokemon once, the temptation to power up one of my Pokemon always got the best of me, so I was always below 10k stardust. Hell, just accumulating about at least 30k stardust was a challenge for me. In the rare occasions that I miraculously managed to accumulate around 100k stardust (which, at the time, was a big deal for me), I ended up blowing it all off on a single Pokemon, which put me back to square one lmaoo.
Definitely a bad habit, but now, I realize, with that habit, I've maxed out virtually all of my best Pokemon, so maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought. Now, I'm able to focus more on stardust grinding, and have managed to build up about 380k stardust, which is a good start (for me, at least). I still spend stardust sometimes, but nowhere near the extent that I used to lol.
I'm curious as to how you guys manage your stardust. Do you like to keep it at a certain number, do you spend or save your stardust, etc.

I always saved my stardust and used to have my cut off at 400 000 when I hit lvl 32 or so. Over that amount I spend as soon as it was enough for a power up. Since then, I have been a little more generous, but still focus on accumulating stardust. I do not have a set minimum that I won't go under anymore.
That leaves me with 1.2 million stardust and I'm on the brink of hitting lvl 38. I have spent a lot lately, but entirely on well planned raid attackers. If I need a raid attacker, I will spend, even though it hurts.
Impressive! Having a set minimum used to help me a little bit, but my lack of self control made it difficult for me to maintain a set number of stardust. Now, similarly to you, I just spend stardust sometimes (maybe like 3-4 times a week), and make that back by the end of the week, with some extra accumulated from egg hatches.
When I started playing I think I spent a small amount on one or two Pokemons, but after that I decided not to spend any unless I really needed to.
It worked well because the Pokemon I had, although not strong, was good enough to take down a gym (this was the old gym system) and even though the ones I put in a gym ended up near the bottom, that really didn't bother me because people took down the entire gym and not just one or two Pokemon.
The new gym system hasn't made it more important to have stronger Pokemon. Sure, a 3000+ Blissey might scare off some low level players, but most people have a good Machamp to take it down.
So I've just saved up stardust for a very long time and has even set certain goals as to how much I shall have.
During the last event (the one before this Halloween event) I set my goal at 3.000.000 stardust. Didn't think I would manage it, but I did.
After reaching 3.35 million I decided to spend some.
Not because I have to, but because I wanted to have atleast a couple 3000+ Pokemon.
Also, I recently got a pretty good Mewtwo, so that really helped me decide to spend dust.
So I spent about 300k stardust on a few Pokemon and have now 50k left until I'm down to 3 million again.
That will be my limit for now. I will not go below that and soon I will set a new goal. Perhaps 3.5 million.
I like having smaller goals in the game and not just wait to reach lvl 40, which will take a very, very long time.
Wow! Congratulations, man! :D
That is the amount of stardust I can only dream of having haha! I think I'm going to start incorporating your method of setting small goals rather than a long-term goal. It might help me deal with my sense of urgency to power up Pokémon rather than set a big goal and burn out in the long haul. Thanks for sharing! =]
i have a million in the bank (thanks to the double dust event while on holidays) but half of that is reserved for mewtwo.
so i aim to bank 500k for emergencies and then above that i save 75k blocks to spend for 20-30 and then 30-35 (78k but near enough). and a job list that i am working through 98% machamp to 36 then 100% dnite to 35 (eventually max) etc.
the 500k is enough to do a whole team to level 30 (for say dnite raids) in an emergency or 30-35 (although i'd only do that for ttar and my champs are high on my job list anyway)
Awesome! =]
Looks like you've also set some nice goals for particular Pokémon. I hope you achieve them!
And, during the double stardust event, I was literally on an insane spending spree. I left no room to save for stardust hahaha! But, I'm getting a little better at managing my stardust, so hopefully with the next double stardust event, I will actually accumulate and save rather than accumulate and spend lol
I was in a very similar situation as yourself. I never have any dust but now I'm nearing level 40 and I have a pretty bomb collection of both top tier and fun mons to use. I have a small handful of 95+% mons I would consider powering up but they are copies of ones I already have maxed. I'm sure I will max them out in a single shot but the urgency isn't there. In going to stockpile dust for now.
Poorly to start, like you. Like you I have more than enough powerful mons which is a luxury many of my friends don’t have.
I decided that I was tired of always being low. I tried to set a 100k basement. I was only okay at keeping my discipline.
During the stardust event, I decided to go ham. I didn’t want stardust to be an issue ever again. I pulled in over a million.
My new basement is 500k, where I’m currently hovering around.
My current project is to collect unique 3000 CP mons, so that was expensive. However, I’m up to 12ish which looks awesome when I open my collection!!
