I know i know yet another should i power my mon question. But here it is...
As of right now i have 6 defenders which non are an ice type mon. I have a Lapras that i am thinking of powering up and adding to my elite defenders but his IV's are low tier. I am very picky when it comes to evolving mons and usually dont bother with anything under 85% obviously move-sets matter too. stats are as follows:
CP:1991, IS/IB, lev:25, 1/7/15, IV's 51%
StartDust:200K Candy: 150 (thank god for Halloween & Thanksgiving events in anticipation of evolving him)
So i have been waiting for a better mon but as we all know they are rare and far between and 10K eggs hatching as Lapras even smaller odds. So I ask my fellow POGO players what are your thoughts? Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
PS: Here are my current top 6 Defenders and im level 29.
Snorlax: 2701, ZH/BS, 28.5, 14/15/11, 89%
Dragonite: 2691, SW/DP, 26.5, 12/15/15 93%
Exeggutor: 2348, ZH/PSY, 28.5, 12/14/15, 91%
Alakazam: 2155, CON/PSY, 26.5, 15/11/15, 91%
Vaporeon: 2275, WG/HP, 25.5, 9/15/15, 87%
Slobro: 2076, CON/PSY, 29.5, 15/14/14 96%
You may like to catch or hatch another lapras.
First, a Vaporeon with hydro pump can take out defenders easily, but it takes a long time to charge, make sure its HP is high.
Second, your exeggutor can be defeated by high CP Seakings quite easily if they have good movesets.
Third, your Dragonite is PERFECT! Poorly IV only 93%. Don't worry, this is still good.
Last, you may like to power up others and the Dragonite.
I say go for it. IS / IB is a great defender moveset. Even if you hatch a Lapras at a later stage, there is no guarantee that it will have IS as a quick move... And if you catch one in the wild, it is likely to have similar IVs if not worse.
With the candy you have and the rarity of getting a Lapras with this moveset, it's a good tradeoff to get it to Level 30; this will situate it well in gyms. And it has perfect HP IVs, which means it will last a while in battle and will serve you well in holding gyms until / if you eventually get another one.
You have enough candy to power this one and another if it comes along. I don't think you could regret it. You'll only be missing out on a 100-200 cp. The 'better' one you get will most likely be from an egg with around 82% and has a chance to get dragon pulse.
Your team looks good, alakazam is questionable. Exeggutor is all or nothing, power it as high as you can if you're gonna use it so the psychic charges will drop scyther, pinsir, parasects, butterfrees...and seaking apparently.
Question is do you NEED another defender or does your team serve you well? If there is another gym that you could hold if only you had another stronger mon, then I agree with others that say go for it. OTOH, if high IV's is a source of pride for you (as for me) then use him as is since 1991 CP Lapras is likely a nice addition to any gym. At least wait and see what the Christmas gift from Niantic will be, maybe we'll all get lots of 10K eggs in our stockings, LOL!
Good team. Except you vaporeon. Hydropump is the worst of the 3 charged move for defendind and 87% a bit low.
Im sorry but 51% is just too low. It takes a long time but i would wait. Now vaps, snorlaxes, gyrarados and Dragonite have higher CP than lapras so you cant afford to power up a low IV lapras or you 'll have trouble not being in the worst spots in a gym
Ive thought about this a little bit and Im not sure which way yo go. Very tough decision. Without the recent CP changes Id say power it up but now that Lapras is relatively smaller to the top of the field Im not so sure. Based on how strong your current defender list is I would not power that up until after Christmas. I think its possible that they may have a Christmas event that includes increased Lapras spawns. I would wait till after the New year because of this. If you feel like this mon will provide you with easy daily collections that wouldnt otherwise be available a strong case could be made for powering that up.
