I do that with my granddaughter. Hot spot on my iPhone 6+. iPad mini. No wifi on the iPad so that's the problem. It would not pick where it was the avatar would run back and forth making it impossible to fight a gym. I purchased a Bluetooth gps for the iPad. Called a Duel XGPS 150. It's about 80$ something on amazon. Not the iPad works great. Better than my phone problem solved

Best Tablet for wifi/hotspot Pokémon go?
I have an iPhone6s but want to raid with my son and we are always stuck sharing and alternating raids. What is a reliable but good value tablet option that you guys use?

We use a "Lenovo TAB3 7 Essential", and hot spot it through my phone.
It is very cheap and rather basic, but it will do what I need it to do - it just can't run any other apps while running PoGo, but we don't need to.
I am not recommending it as the greatest tablet ever - but I am saying it is an affordable option to effectively run PoGo on a large screen second device.
It can run on WiFi and has a GPS module in it, and I only paid about $80 Australian for it.
